- 4 med onions, minced
- Â Â (2 c.)
- 1/4 c. olive or possibly veg. oil
- 1 x (29-oz) can tomato puree
- 1 x tomato can of water
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 x (15-oz) can condimento per pasta con sarde (available at Italian groceries)
- 1/4 c. pine nuts
- 2 c. dry bread crumbs
- 2 Tbsp. olive or possibly veg. oil
- Â Â Several dashes pepper
- 10 x to 12 servings warm cooked spaghetti (about 2 pounds)

- In large, heavy saucepan or possibly Dutch oven, cook onions in oil till tender but not brown. Add in tomato puree, water and sugar. Simmer, uncovered, 10 to 15 min. Break up fish in condimento; add in to tomato mix, along with pine nuts. Simmer, uncovered, 2 hrs, stirring frequently. Stir every 5 - 10 min the last 30 min to prevent sticking.
- In heavy skillet, toast bread crumbs with 2 Tbsp. oil and the pepper.
- Serve sauce over warm spaghetti. Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
