,%20but%20it%20is%20always%20worth%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBlue%20sky%20and%20wispy%20clouds:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECamping%20wouldn't%20be%20as%20fun%20if%20it%20was%20clean:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20sleeping%20in%20a%20tent%20under%20the%20stars%20and%20waking%20up%20to%20the%20hushed%20voices%20and%20breakfast%20smells%20of%20a%20campground.%20Fellow%20campers%20are%20always%20so%20friendly-%20it%20is%20as%20if%20we%20have%20some%20unspoken%20bond%20because%20we%20are%20all%20%22the%20kind%20of%20people%20who%20go%20camping%22.%20We%20can%20refer%20to%20things%20like%20%22camp%20soap%22%20or%20%22deet%22%20or%20a%20%22rain%20fly%22%20amongst%20ourselves%20knowing%20that%20there%20is%20no%20need%20for%20explanation.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHoled%20up:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20tent%20has%20a%20view%20of%20the%20sky:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThursday%20night,%20we%20had%20quite%20an%20adventure!%20Sometime%20around%203am,%20we%20were%20awoken%20by%20the%20sound%20of%20a%20cooler%20being%20tossed%20around%20and%20bear%20locker%20doors%20being%20rattled.%20We%20listened%20for%20a%20little%20while%20before%20my%20husband%20looked%20out%20the%20tent%20window.%20He%20turned%20on%20his%20flashlight%20and%20scanned%20the%20area%20in%20the%20direction%20of%20the%20ruckus%20until,%20just%20one%20campsite%20over,%20he%20saw%20a%20GIANT%20black%20bear!%20The%20bear's%20eyes%20were%20glowing%20in%20the%20flashlight%20beam%20and%20he%20did%20not%20appear%20to%20enjoy%20the%20bright%20light%20in%20his%20face.%20We%20quickly%20shut%20the%20light%20off%20and%20looked%20at%20each%20other%20with%20wide%20eyes%20that%20silently%20said,%20%22holy%20crap!%22%20We%20sat%20for%20a%20moment%20before%20my%20son,%20not%20knowing%20that%20there%20was%20a%20humungous%20bear%20outside,%20woke%20up%20and%20said,%20%22I%20have%20to%20go%20potty.%22%20Really?%20Now?%20Really?!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20waited%20until%20the%20bear%20lumbered%20off%20into%20the%20trees%20and%20it%20quieted%20down%20outside%20to%20take%20our%20bathroom%20trip.%20But,%20a%20little%20while%20later,%20the%20bear%20was%20back!%20He%20found%20something%20in%20another%20site%20and%20was%20making%20a%20bunch%20of%20noise%20again.%20One%20by%20one,%20the%20people%20around%20us%20began%20waking%20up%20and%20emerging%20from%20their%20tents%20to%20see%20what%20was%20going%20on.%20They%20whispered%20and%20pointed%20flashlights%20saying,%20%22see%20him,%20over%20there?%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20know%20I'm%20crazy,%20but%20I%20LOVED%20seeing%20this%20big%20ol'%20bear!%20I%20so%20wish%20I%20had%20a%20picture%20of%20him!%20I%20also%20love%20the%20solidarity%20that%20this%20sort%20of%20encounter%20draws%20out.%20People%20who%20have%20never%20spoken%20before%20are%20suddenly%20sharing%20stories%20and%20flashlights%20and%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20full%20moon%20rising%20behind%20the%20trees:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFortunately%20our%20food%20was%20stored%20safely%20away%20from%20the%20bear%20in%20our%20bear%20locker!%20Our%20camping%20menu%20was%20similar%20to%20last%20year.%20I%20also%20brought%20along%20some%20homemade%20soft%20pretzels%20and%20a%20container%20of%20Hickory-Smoked%20Cheddar-Style%20We%20Can't%20Say%20It's%20Cheese%20Spread,%20my%20quick%20and%20easy%20granola%20bars,%20instant%20oatmeal%20with%20Justin's%20Nut%20Butter%20packets,%20and%20a%20couple%20more%20things%20from%20my%20picnic%20food%20recipe%20round%20up.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECamping%20snacks:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20favorite%20meal%20on%20this%20trip%20was%20pasta%20with%20veggies%20and%20%22meatballs%22%20(I%20used%20Nate's%20Meatless%20Meatballs%20but%20Trader%20Joe's%20carries%20them%20under%20their%20label%20too).%20This%20is%20a%20meal%20that%20is%20easy%20to%20prepare%20and%20travels%20well.%20I%20plan%20to%20prep%20a%20bunch%20of%20veggies%20and%20freeze%20them%20in%20freezer%20bags%20for%20a%20quick%20at-home%20version%20of%20this%20that%20I%20can%20pull%20out%20on%20busy%20nights.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPasta%20and%20Veggies%20To%20Go%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%20about%204%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20all%20of%20the%20chopped%20veggies%20in%20a%20zip%20top%20bag%20with%20the%20spinach%20at%20the%20bottom%20(i.e.%20put%20the%20spinach%20in%20first).%20You%20can%20add%20the%20salt,%20pepper,%20and%20Italian%20seasoning%20to%20the%20bag%20as%20well%20or%20bring%20those%20along%20to%20season%20the%20veggies%20while%20you%20are%20cooking.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20prepare%20this%20meal,%20boil%20water%20and%20cook%20the%20pasta%20per%20the%20package%20directions.%20In%20a%20large%20skillet,%20heat%20about%20a%20tablespoon%20of%20olive%20oil%20and%20add%20the%20bag%20of%20veggies.%20If%20you're%20feeling%20fancy,%20you%20can%20add%20everything%20but%20the%20spinach%20and%20add%20the%20spinach%20later%20once%20the%20harder%20veggies%20have%20cooked%20a%20bit.%20If%20not,%20it%20will%20still%20turn%20out%20fine!%20Season%20with%20salt,%20pepper,%20and%20Italian%20seasoning%20while%20cooking.%20Once%20the%20veggies%20have%20softened%20and%20are%20cooked%20through,%20add%201/2%20to%201%20whole%20jar%20of%20marinara%20and%20as%20many%20%22meatballs%22%20as%20you%20would%20like.%20Bring%20to%20a%20simmer%20and%20cook%20for%20another%20minute%20or%20two.%20Leftovers%20can%20be%20stored%20in%20the%20zip%20top%20bag%20that%20the%20veggies%20were%20in%20but,%20please,%20use%20the%20bear%20locker%20if%20you're%20camping!%20;-)%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
