 BBQ Sauce Cooking on the Stove |
Add a photoI'm experimenting with low-cost, easy to make bbq sauces, and like this one a lot. It's basic and you can add things to it like Tabasco, celery seed, etc.
I calculated the cost of the ingredients at $2.40, making a 1/4 cup serving cost about 28 cents. Makes enough for 8-9 guests..

- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tbs. butter
- 3 cups ketchup
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup Worcestershire
- 1/4 cup water
- 3 tbs. vinegar or fresh lemon juice
- 1 1/4 tbs. hickory liquid smoke
- 1/2 tsp. yellow mustard
- 1/8 tsp. ground pepper

- Combine ingredients is a sauce pan, simmer 30 minutes, covered.
- Strain and serve.
