Рецепт Chocolate layered Vanilla Cake covered with fondant snowman
Zoya turned two this week and on her demand I baked a cake for her to cut at 12 midnight! This was the first time I was working with fondant icing and had no tools to make the toys and lay them on the cake but I managed to get a decent cake on the table.
Zoya loved the cake and couldn't take her hands off it! It was such a satisfying moment!

- Cake-
- 1 cup All Purpose flour/ Maida
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup Granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 1 tbsp Vanilla essence
- For chocolate layering-
- 300 gm dark cooking chocolate
- 1/2 cup cream
- For fondant-
- 400 gm 10 X Icing sugar +75 gm for rolling the dough
- 1 tbsp Gelatin
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1/2 cup sugar syrup (Boil 1 cup sugar with 1/3 cup water until syrupy)
- 1.5 tbsp glycerin
- 1 tbsp vegetable shortening or Clarified butter

- For making Fondant-
- Dissolve gelatin with water and let it sit for 2 min. It will absorb all the water.
- Heat it in a pan or microwave for 30 sec so that the gelatin starts dissolving.
- Add sugar syrup and glycerin. Mix well. Heat it in microwave for additional 45 sec such that the solution starts looking clearer.
- In a big bowl put 400 gm icing sugar and make a well in the center. Put the sugar solution in the middle and incorporate the icing sugar into the solution. mix well and knead it like a dough. Use vegetable shortening to grease your hands if it gets too sticky.
- When the dough is soft and pliable, color parts of it in different colors using gel colors drop by drop and kneading it in the dough.
- I used yellow and green color to make two batches. I also left a portion of white fondant for the snow man.
- To make cake-
- Beat sugar, egg., milk and oil together for 5 min.
- Mix All Purpose Flour, baking powder, baking soda together to form dry mix.
- Slowly start incorporating the dry mix to sugar egg mix. (Mix in three turns and stir well before beating)
- Beat well.
- Add Vanilla essence and mix well.
- Bake it at 350 F in a square dish for 35 min or until a knife inserted in the cake comes out clean.
- Let it cool.
- For Chocolate layering-
- Melt chocolate in a microwave or a double boiler. Make sure the chocolate doesn't burn if melting in microwave.(Stir it intermittently).
- Beat cream in a bowl and mix with the hot chocolate such that it has a smooth creamy texture without any lumps. If needed, you can heat it for 30 sec.
- To layer the cake-
- When the cake is cool cut the cake horizontally into three pieces. Place the first layer on a flat surface. Pour 1/2 of the chocolate mix on the top and spread well.
- Put the second cake layer on it.
- Again layer with the remaining chocolate mix and spread well.
- Put the third cake layer on the top. Let it rest.
- For icing with fondant-
- Roll the green fondant and cover the cake.Trim all the extra fondant from the sides.
- Roll yellow fondant.Cut human figures or shape of your desire with a cookie cutter and place it on the sides of the cake by lightly brushing it with water such that it sticks to the cake.
- Cut stars in the yellow fondant, brush with water and place it on top of the cake.
- With the help of white fondant roll out balls and make a snow man
- out of it. Place on the cake.
- Put chocolate covered Almonds on the stars.
- Decorate with strawberries.
- Drizzle head of snowman with chocolate to make its hair.
- Decorate as per your desire.
- Cover the cake and let it rest for 15 min.
- Cut and serve.
