NYC Marathon Expo

I left work in a rush the other night to pick up my number at the NYC Marathon Expo, and barely made it in time. Since this is my second year, I figured I would project the cool veneer of an experienced marathoner, pick up my number and leave. Nope.
A lot of out-of-towners come to NY specifically to run the marathon. Wandering around with the group of excited visitors, I didn't see anyone I knew, so I didn't have to front that I was cooler than I am (kind of impossible anyway.) Last year I ran into a few people I knew at the Expo, so I tried to be blase. This year, I took the time to check out the scene.

%20Last%20year%20I%20ran%20into%20a%20few%20people%20I%20knew%20at%20the%20Expo,%20so%20I%20tried%20to%20be%20blase.%20This%20year,%20I%20took%20the%20time%20to%20check%20out%20the%20scene.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20stopped%20to%20touch%20all%20the%20marathon-branded%20clothing%20and%20imagined%20myself%20in%20a%20new%20shirt,%20jacket%20and%20hat.%20Even%20gloves.%20I%20talked%20to%20pacers,%20and%20thought%20of%20myself%20running%20at%20improbably%20fast%20speeds.%20I%20tried%20on%20the%20fancy%20high-tech%20Garmin,%20imagining%20myself%20knowing%20my%20pace%20while%20running.%20I%20watched%20the%20video%20of%20the%20course%20and%20envisioned%20Sunday%20in%20all%20its%20gory%20detail.%20I%20entered%20a%20lottery%20-%20the%20winner%20will%20win%20an%20all%20expenses%20paid%20two%20week%20trip%20for%20two%20to%20Sydney,%20Australia%20and%20an%20automatic%20entry%20to%20that%20marathon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20spent%20a%20lot%20more%20time%20at%20the%20Expo%20than%20I%20expected.%20It%20was%20fun%20imagining%20myself%20tricked%20out%20in%20fancy%20new%20gear,%20running%20faster%20than%20I%20could%20in%20all%20kinds%20of%20exotic%20places.%20In%20the%20end,%20while%20I%20enjoyed%20my%20imagination,%20I%20didn't%20buy%20any%20of%20the%20new%20stuff.%20My%20old%20shirt,%20hat%20and%20watch%20serve%20me%20faithfully%20and%20are%20plenty%20fine.%20I%20did%20buy%20a%20box%20of%20Gu%20though%20(plain).%20And%20I'm%20sure%20I'll%20win%20the%20lottery%20to%20Australia.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEven%20though%20I%20didn't%20leave%20with%20a%20bag%20of%20new%20gear,%20I%20left%20the%20Expo%20giddy%20and%20motivated.%20It%20was%20about%20seeing%20the%20possibilities.%20I%20think%20that's%20why%20you're%20here%20with%20us%20on%20MindfulEats.%20Because%20you%20see%20the%20possibilities%20in%20yourself%20and%20your%20goals.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKeep%20on%20trucking.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20I%20ate:%2024%20oz.%20Gatorade,%201%20banana,%20hummus,%20pita%20bread,%20mushroom%20omelette,%20sauteed%20spinach,%20latte,%20whole%20wheat%20spaghetti%20+%20Rao's%20Siciliana%20sauce,%20macadamia%20nuts,%201%20Andes%20mint,%202%20Bread%20Alone%20chocolate%20chip%20cookies,%20hot%20chocolate,%2060%20oz.%20water.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EExercise:%20ran%20two%20miles%20with%20Lance%20Armstrong%20(ok,%20it%20wasn't%20really%20with%20Lance%20Armstrong%20-%20it%20was%20in%20his%20general%20vicinity%20with%20100%20other%20people)%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
