- 1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 5 Tbsp. chilled unsalted butter cut 1/2" pcs
- 1/4 c. chilled solid vegetable shortening cut 1/2" pcs
- 2 Tbsp. ice water or possibly more if needed

- Whisk flour and salt in medium bowl to blend. Add in butter and shortening. Rub in with fingertips till very coarse meal forms. Sprinkle with 2 Tbsp. water. Toss till moist clumps form, sprinkling with more water by teaspoonfuls if mix is dry.
- Gather dough into ball; flatten into disk. Wrap in plastic and refrigerateat least 1 hour. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Keep refrigerated. Soften dough slightly at room temperature before using.)
- This recipe yields one 9-inch crust.
- Comments: For extra convenience, make this a week ahead and freeze. Thaw in the refrigerator.
- Yield: 1 crust
