- 4 1/2 quart Water
- 12 ounce Black beans, picked over
- 10 x Cloves garlic, chopped
- 1/2 tsp Crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp Fennel seeds
- 1 x Bay leaf
- 1 c. Minced parsley
- 1 can (28-ounce) whole tomatoes in juice, crushed with your hands
- 1/2 c. Brown rice, uncooked Salt to taste
- 1 tsp Black pepper

- 1. Bring water to a boil in a large covered pot. Add in beans, garlic, red pepper flakes, fennel seeds, bay leaf and parsley. Cook over medium heat, uncovered, for 1 hour, stirring frequently.
- 2. Add in rice, salt and pepper. Lower heat and simmer 1 hour, stirring frequently. Stir in tomatoes and cook 30 min or possibly till beans are soft. Season to taste.
