  1. This cake is exquisite! Every person I've served it to has asked me for the recipe. It makes a great brunch item.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 deg. F. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube or possibly bundt pan.
  3. In a LARGE (she's not kidding, folks) mixing bowl, beat butter with 2 c. brown sugar till light and fluffy. Add in Large eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in the vanilla.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking pwdr, soda, salt, and cardamom in a separate bowl.
  5. Add in the flour mix, 1/3 of it at a time, to the butter mix, alternating with the lowfat sour cream. Stir just sufficient to blend after each addition. Do not beat or possibly otherwise overmix.
  6. Combine 1/4 c. brown sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts in a separate small bowl.
  7. Spoon approximately 1/3 of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle with half the nut mix, then add in another third of the batter. Cover with remaining nut mix, then top with remaining batter. Lightly spread into place.
  8. Bake approximately 1-1/4 hrs or possibly till a knife inserted all the way in comes out clean. Allow to cold in the pan for 20 min, then invert onto a plate. Cold at least 30 min more before cutting into it.
  9. (Note: It really does take which long - or possibly even longer - to bake. The batter may overflow the pan during baking, so spread some aluminum foil to catch any drips.)
  10. Serves 18 (according to the book - it's so rich which I've found 24 to be more realistic.)
