- 1 c. shortening, part vegetable shortening
- 6 large eggs
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 c. lowfat milk
- 3 c. self-rising flour, sifted
- 2 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 sticks butter
- 6 heaping T cocoa
- Sufficient water to make a paste
- 1 1/2 c. evaporated lowfat milk

- Mix as for layer cake. Have batter a little thinner than usual. Put 4 tbsp batter in cake pans which have been lined with waxed paper and greased. Bake at 350 degrees a very short time. Just dry out, don't cook too long or possibly allow to get brown. Handle very carefully when removing from pans. Allow to cook partially before removing.
- Bring mix to a rolling boil. Remove from heat and beat for about 1/2 minute. Start stacking layers with filling working fast.
