When Pete and I moved to Minnesota twenty years ago with our then 4 month old daughter, Taylor, one of the first things we had to check out was the Minnesota State Fair. Nothing had prepared me for this event that we call "The Great Minnesota Get Together". I had been to other state fairs, but, besides the awesome cream puffs at the Wisconsin State Fair, I don't remember much from any of them. Most of them were made up of carnival rides, barkers for the yak woman, and games that seemed impossible to win. This fair was almost wholesome in comparison....and everyone went to it. Oh, there is a midway at this fair, with rides and maybe even the yak woman, but I don't know from that area. As you may have guessed, we go for the food.

.%20We%20have%20machinery%20hill,%20with%20all%20of%20its%20farm%20equipment,%20and%20we%20have%20a%20fine%20arts%20building%20that%20houses%20the%20seed%20art,%20paintings%20and%20other%20artwork%20from%20some%20very%20talented%20Minnesotans.%20Then%20we%20have%20the%20unique.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20not%20sure%20if%20Spamville%20is%20exclusive%20to%20the%20Minnesota%20State%20Fair,%20but%20it%20would%20make%20sense%20since%20Spam%20is%20made%20in%20Austin,%20MN.%20Here%20we%20found%20all%20things%20Spam%20including,%20but%20not%20limited%20to,%20deep%20fried%20Spam%20curds.%20We%20did%20not%20try%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20we%20have%20the%20traditional.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%20we%20listened%20to%20Eddie%20Blazonczyk's%20Versatones.%20If%20you%20look%20close,%20you%20can%20see%20some%20couples%20doing%20the%20polka%20in%20front.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20insisted%20on%20a%20burger%20with%20fried%20onions%20from%20our%20%22usual%22%20place.%20Unfortunately,%20I%20mixed%20up%20the%20place.%20So%20while%20I%20was%20eating%20this%20ho-hum%20burger,%20Pete%20was%20next%20door%20enjoying%20our%20usual%20burger,%20freshly%20grilled%20and%20much%20tastier.%20He%20allowed%20me%20a%20bite,%20but%20no%20picture.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECheck%20out%20all%20of%20the%20men%20in%20line%20for%20the%201/4%20pound%20bacon%20on%20a%20stick.%20We%20opted%20out%20of%20this%20one,%20too.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere,%20a%20Minnesota%20gopher%20welcomes%20us%20to%20the%20fair.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20place%20sold%20all%20things%20tie-dyed.%20The%20owner%20told%20me%20that%20earlier%20in%20the%20day,%20some%20young%20kid%20actually%20asked%20him%20if%20he%20sold%20rolling%20papers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course%20we%20had%20to%20try%20fried%20potatoes%20of%20some%20kind.%20These%20fresh%20%22chips%22%20were%20to%20die%20for.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt's%20not%20the%20fair%20without%20at%20least%20one%20thing%20on%20a%20stick.%20These%20Pronto%20Pups%20were%20first%20served%20in%201947.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20we%20had%20to%20have%20some%20deep%20fried%20cheese%20curds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWorth%20a%20second%20picture.%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20split%20some%20ice%20cream%20made%20with%20liquid%20nitrogen.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20we%20had%20to%20have%20mini-donuts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20Pete%20and%20I%20checked%20out%20the%20fine%20arts%20building,%20Taylor%20and%20Tyler%20played%20games%20on%20the%20midway.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20last%20stop%20of%20the%20day%20was%20to%20see%20the%20butter%20sculptures.%20Twelve%20young%20women%20were%20Princess%20Kay%20of%20the%20Milky%20Way%20finalists.%20They%20were%20sculpted%20in%20butter.%20Enough%20said.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20so,%20another%20state%20fair%20and%20another%20summer%20are%20done.%20It%20seemed%20like%20the%20very%20next%20day%20the%20furnace%20kicked%20in%20for%20the%20first%20time.%20Now%20the%20leaves%20are%20turning%20all%20sorts%20of%20beautiful%20colors%20and%20everyone%20is%20back%20to%20school%20and%20work.%20Autumn%20is%20my%20favorite%20time%20of%20year.%20What%20is%20yours?%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
