%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20day%20started%20with%20a%20trip%20to%20the%20vet%20for%20my%20mamakitty,%20Roxy,%20who%20has%20gained%20an%20astonishing%20amount%20of%20weight.%20For%20those%20who%20are%20new,%20back%20in%20March%20we%20adopted%20a%20homeless%20pregnant%20kitty%20who%20still%20looked%20like%20a%20kitten%20herself.%20On%20April%204%20she%20birthed%20six%20kittens,%20including%20a%20tiny%20runt%20who%20couldn't%20push%20past%20her%20brothers%20and%20sisters%20to%20nurse%20and%20had%20to%20be%20bottle-fed%20by%20us.%20We%20kept%20Roxy,%20the%20runt%20(Fry),%20and%20a%20boy%20kitten%20named%20Davey.%20Roxy%20lost%20all%20her%20babyweight%20quickly%20and%20reverted%20to%20a%20very%20small,%20svelte%207.5%20pounds.%20Since%20weaning%20her%20kittens,%20being%20spayed,%20and%20moving%20to%20the%20house,%20she%20has%20ballooned%20to%20almost%2010%20pounds%20and%20has%20a%20rather%20alarming%20matronly%20look%20about%20her.%20So%20as%20of%20today,%20she's%20on%20a%20diet,%20poor%20gal.%20And%20Davey%20has%20to%20be%20on%20probiotics,%20and%20Fry%20still%20needs%20extra%20food,%20so%20it%20looks%20like%20we're%20going%20to%20have%20to%20start%20feeding%20all%20three%20of%20our%20cats%20separately.%20You%20know,%20just%20because%20life%20isn't%20complex%20or%20demanding%20enough%20around%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20speaking%20of%20feeding%20animals,%20our%20hens%20have%20outgrown%20their%20little%20chick%20feeders%20and%20they%20keep%20knocking%20them%20over.%20We%20now%20need%20to%20install%20large%20hanging%20feeders%20on%20the%20underside%20of%20the%20coop,%20so%20we%20went%20to%20the%20Urban%20Farm%20Store%20(my%20favorite%20store!)%20and%20bought%20them.%20I%20can't%20figure%20out%20how%20to%20get%20the%20lid%20on%20the%20feeder,%20because%20I'm%20an%20idiot,%20and%20the%20water%20regulator%20isn't%20working%20so%20it%20just%20overflows%20gallons%20of%20water%20all%20over%20the%20chicken%20run.%20Our%20afternoon%20agenda%20now%20demands%20that%20we%20resolve%20this%20problem.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20also%20bought%20some%20asparagus%20starts%20at%20the%20UFS%20so%20I%20can%20start%20our%20asparagus%20patch%20in%20the%20front%20yard.%20Yay!%20We%20won't%20be%20able%20to%20harvest%20any%20asparagus%20until%202011%20but%20it%20should%20be%20worth%20the%20wait.%20And%20in%20the%20meantime,%20next%20year,%20it'll%20look%20pretty...%20and%20the%20important%20thing%20is%20that%20it's%20another%20patch%20of%20grass%20GONE%20in%20our%20Quest%20To%20Eliminate%20the%20Lawn.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFurther%20continuing%20the%20quest%20today,%20we%20dropped%20by%20the%20Portland%20Nursery%20to%20spend%20some%20of%20a%20gift%20card%20we%20got%20as%20a%20housewarming%20present.%20We%20got%20a%20handy-dandy%20little%20weeding%20tool%20and%20some%20completely%20frivolous%20iris%20and%20crocus%20bulbs%20-%20no,%20we%20can't%20eat%20them,%20but%20dammit%20I%20want%20pretty%20flowers%20in%20the%20spring.%20And%20anyway%20they%20attract%20bees.%20Bees%20are%20important,%20right?%20*innocent%20look*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20also%20got%20an%20obscene%20quantity%20of%20garlic%20to%20plant,%20which%20knowing%20us%20is%20still%20not%20going%20to%20be%20enough%20garlic.%20We%20were%20going%20for%20more%20vegetable%20starts%20but%20we%20decided%20to%20come%20back%20later%20and%20spend%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20gift%20card%20once%20the%20first%20raised%20bed%20is%20built.%20And%20that's%20going%20to%20have%20to%20wait%20until%20the%20next%20job%20comes%20through%20for%20both%20of%20us%20as%20funds%20are%20getting%20tight.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20it's%20a%20day%20of%20drama%20and%20melodrama%20and%20hard%20work.%20Tonight%20I%20really%20need%20to%20put%20up%20some%20pumpkin%20seed%20pesto%20sauce,%20pumpkin%20butter,%20and%20pumpkin%20gnocchi.%20My%20list%20of%20%22preserves%20to%20can%22%20on%20the%20fridge%20is%20getting%20ridiculously%20long%20but%20I%20haven't%20gotten%20around%20to%20it%20for%20awhile.%20Maybe%20when%20winter%20comes%20I'll%20be%20able%20to%20sleep%20in%20once%20or%20twice%20and%20lounge%20about%20reading...%20but%20there's%20no%20sign%20of%20winter%20today.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
