  1. 1. Soak peas overnight in water to cover; drain.
  2. 2. Place peas in Dutch oven with ham bone, potatoes, carrots, onion, bay leaf, 4 qts water and salt and pepper to taste.
  3. 3. Cook over low heat approximately 4 hrs, stirring occasionally.
  4. 4. Remove ham bone and bay leaf. Place soup in blender, blend till smooth. Taste to correct seasonings. Reheat and serve piping warm. Makes 10 servings.
