- 3 c. flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tbsp. vegetable shortening
- 2 Large eggs, separated
- 1 1/4 c. hot water

- Mix flour, salt and sugar. Work in the shortening. Add in egg yolks and water; mix well. Turn onto floured board and knead for about 10 min. Divide into 2 portions.
- Cover with cloth and set aside for 1 1/2 to 2 hrs or possibly longer. On floured board, roll each portion out thinly. Place apple slices proportionately over dough. Mix remaining filling ingredients. Spread half on each portion. Dot with butter. Roll as for jelly roll, from narrow end, being careful not to tear dough. Place on baking sheet and brush with beaten egg whites. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 min or possibly till lightly browned.
