- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 1/4 cups flour

- 1/2 to 1 cup sugar

- Blend together the butter and brown sugar in a large bowl
- Add the egg and molasses
- Set aside
- Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and the salt in a separate large bowl
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture
- Mix well
- Roll the dough into one-inch balls
- Roll in the sugar
- Arrange onto ungreased baking sheets 2 inches apart
- Bake at 350 F for 10-12 minutes or until the cookies are set and the tops are cracked
- Remove to wire racks
