%20I%20am%20ready%20to%20mourn%20the%20little%20girl%20braid%20trailing%20down%20her%20back.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20of%20this%20is%20just%20silly,%20of%20course,%20seeing%20as%20I%20am%20the%20one%20who%20reassured%20Alex%20a%20bazillion%20times%20that%20hair%20always%20grows%20back.%20%20We%20took%208-9%20inches%20off,%20donating%20the%20bottom%207-8%20inches%20to%20Locks%20of%20Love.%20%20Although%20a%20little%20freaked%20out%20at%20first,%20she%20has%20grown%20to%20love%20it%20as%20her%20morning%20routine%20has%20shrunk%20down%20to%20a%20few%20quick%20brushstrokes%20and%20nothing%20else%20in%20the%20hair%20department.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20cake%20is%20a%20lot%20like%20Alex%E2%80%99s%20new%20haircut.%20%20Deceptively%20simple%20and%20quick,%20it%20packs%20an%20elegant%20punch.%20%20John%20and%20I%20%E2%80%9Cfought%E2%80%9D%20(don%E2%80%99t%20worry,%20no%20signs%20required)%20over%20the%20last%20piece,%20and%20when%20that%20happens%20I%20know%20I%20have%20struck%20gold%20because%20John%20and%20I%20do%20not%20have%20super%20similar%20taste%20in%20cakes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20cake%20is%20basically%20Lauren%20Chattman%E2%80%99s%20Everyday%20Yogurt%20Cake%E2%80%93to%20which%20I%20added%20cardamom%20and%20subbed%20in%20some%20sour%20cream.%20%20I%20baked%20it%20for%20John%E2%80%99s%20homecoming%20from%20Barcelona;%20the%20beauty%20of%20this%20cake%20is%20that%20you%20can%20bake%20it%20for%20no%20reason%20at%20all%20or%20dress%20it%20up%20with%20some%20whipped%20cream%20and%20maybe%20fresh%20berries%20and%20serve%20it%20at%20a%20dinner%20party.%20The%20cardamom%20especially%20gives%20it%20that%20added%20touch%20of%20sophistication.%20%20If%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20like%20cardamom,%20substitute%20in%20another%20spice,%20maybe%20cinnamon%20or%20nutmeg.%20%20Or%20leave%20the%20spices%20out%20completely%E2%80%93but%20I%20hope%20you%20try%20the%20cardamom%20first!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECardamom%20Yogurt%20Cake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20Lauren%20Chattman,%20Cake%20Keeper%20Cakes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350%20F.%20Grease%20and%20flour%20(or%20use%20a%20grease/flour%20combo%20spray%20such%20as%20Baker%E2%80%99s%20Joy)%20a%209%20inch%20round%20cake%20pan.%20%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhisk%20together%20the%20flour,%20sugar,%20baking%20powder,%20baking%20soda,%20cardamom%20and%20salt.%20%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhisk%20together%20the%20yogurt,%20sour%20cream,%20oil,%20eggs%20and%20vanilla.%20%20Pour%20over%20the%20flour%20mixture%20and%20gently%20mix%20until%20just%20evenly%20moistened.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScrape%20the%20batter%20into%20the%20prepared%20cake%20pan%20and%20smooth%20the%20top.%20%20Bake%20until%20the%20top%20of%20the%20cake%20is%20golden%20and%20a%20toothpick%20inserted%20into%20the%20center%20of%20the%20cake%20comes%20out%20clean%20or%20with%20only%20a%20few%20crumbs%20attached.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20the%20cake%20cool%20in%20the%20pan%20for%205%20minutes,%20and%20then%20turn%20out%20onto%20a%20plate.%20%20Flip%20the%20cake%20onto%20a%20cooling%20rack%20lined%20with%20wax%20paper%20so%20that%20the%20golden%20top%20of%20the%20cake%20is%20again%20the%20top.%20%20Let%20cool%20completely%20before%20slicing.%20%20Serve%20with%20confectioners%E2%80%99%20sugar%20or%20whipped%20cream.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecake,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecardamom,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ehaircut,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Espices,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eyogurt%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
