- 1¾ cups AP flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 t baking soda
- ½ t fine sea salt
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup minus 2 t natural cocoa powder (I used Ghiradelli)
- 2 t Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa (or substitute with a Dutch cocoa–this is optional, for the darker color)
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup buttermilk (I used full fat)
- 2 large eggs
- 2 t vanilla
- For the buttermilk glaze:
- ⅓ cup buttermilk (I used full fat)
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- pinch of fine sea salt
- 1 t vanilla

.%20Each%20child%20chose%20a%20cookie%20(kids%20and%20sprinkles%E2%80%93it%20is%20money%20in%20the%20bank),%20but%20since%20the%20cookies%20were%20tiny%20I%20also%20let%20them%20have%20a%20tiny%20square%20of%20this%20cake.%20I%20also%20showed%20them%20the%20matching%20cake%20that%20would%20be%20available%20at%20the%20cake%20walk.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWell%20darn%20if%20Alex%E2%80%99s%20friend%20didn%E2%80%99t%20play%20the%20cake%20walk%20repeatedly%20upon%20getting%20to%20the%20carnival,%20until%20she%20won%20a%20cake.%20She%20chose%20this%20buttermilk%20beauty%20and%20proceeded%20to%20run%20all%20over%20the%20cafeteria,%20showing%20anyone%20who%20would%20listen%20that%20she%20won%20this%20cake.%20I%20was%20so%20touched!%20Then,%20a%20few%20days%20later,%20she%20came%20and%20found%20me%20in%20the%20gym%20when%20I%20was%20picking%20the%20girls%20up%20to%20ask%20if%20she%20could%20please%20have%20the%20recipe!%20So%20adorable!%20Emma,%20this%20post%20is%20for%20you!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBefore%20I%20forget,%20I%20promised%20you%20guys%20I%20would%20show%20you%20the%20OXO%20Good%20Grips%20Plastic%20Brownie%20Spatula%20for%20Non-stick%20Pans%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnother%20OXO%20tool%20from%20that%20package%20that%20came%20in%20super%20handy%20is%20the%20OXO%20Good%20Grips%20Silicone%20Pastry%20Brush%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E.%20There%20are%20holes%20in%20a%20sheet%20inbetween%20the%20fringe%20of%20the%20brush%20that%20grab%20the%20marinade/glaze/etc%20and%20therefore%20allow%20you%20to%20brush%20more%20on%20at%20once.%20It%20worked%20perfectly%20for%20the%20buttermilk%20glaze%20on%20this%20cake,%20as%20you%20can%20see%20Alex%20above%20glazing%20the%20cake.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBecause%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20want%20to%20hold%20out%20on%20you,%20I%20have%20to%20also%20tell%20you%20that%20both%20of%20my%20cakes%20inexplicably%20rose%20in%20the%20center.%20You%20guys%20know%20I%20bake%20a%20lot%20of%20cakes,%20and%20honestly%20I%20just%20have%20not%20come%20up%20with%20a%20reason%20for%20this.%20I%20have%20a%20newer,%20even-cooking%20convection%20oven.%20My%20baking%20soda%20is%20fresh,%20although%20since%20it%20is%20baking%20soda%20my%20understanding%20is%20that%20it%20does%20not%20matter%20(unlike%20baking%20powder).%20I%20whisked%20the%20baking%20soda%20in%20thoroughly.%20I%20am%20at%20a%20loss,%20and%20yes%20the%20cake%20kinda%20looks%20like%20it%20has%20a%20tumor%E2%80%93or%20ten.%20But%20the%20weirdness%20collapsed%20and%20did%20not%20affect%20the%20flavor,%20or%20even%20really%20the%20presentation%20after%20being%20glazed,%20so%20I%20am%20sharing%20the%20cake%20anyway%20(we%20don%E2%80%99t%20want%20to%20let%20Emma%20down!).%20If%20any%20of%20my%20readers%20have%20any%20thoughts%20feel%20free%20to%20share!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EButtermilk%20Glazed%20Buttermilk%20Chocolate%20Snack%20Cake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERecipe%20type:%20Dessert%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECuisine:%20Cake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350%20F.%20Thoroughly%20butter%20a%209X13%20baking%20pan%20or%202%208X8%20baking%20pans.%20Be%20sure%20to%20get%20the%20corners!%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhisk%20together%20the%20flour,%20both%20sugars,%20baking%20soda%20and%20salt%20in%20a%20large%20bowl.%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20saucepan%20over%20medium%20high%20heat%20bring%20to%20a%20boil%20the%20cocoa%20powders,%20the%20butter%20and%20the%20water.%20Stir%20constantly.%20As%20soon%20as%20the%20butter%20melts%20and%20the%20mixture%20comes%20to%20a%20boil,%20pour%20the%20mixture%20into%20the%20bowl%20with%20the%20flour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUsing%20a%20handheld%20beater,%20beat%20the%20cocoa%20mixture%20into%20the%20flour%20mixture%20on%20medium%20speed%20just%20until%20mixed.%20Scrape%20the%20sides%20and%20bottom%20of%20the%20bowl%20and%20then%20add%20the%20eggs,%20buttermilk%20and%20vanilla.%20Beat%20on%20medium%20speed%20until%20smooth.%20Be%20sure%20to%20scrape%20down%20the%20sides%20and%20bottom%20of%20the%20bowl%20one%20more%20time%20before%20finishing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20the%20batter%20into%20the%20prepared%20pan/s.%20Bake%20for%2020-25%20minutes%20(keep%20a%20close%20eye%20on%20the%20cakes%20if%20you%20are%20using%20smaller%20pans,%20but%20I%20found%20they%20took%20about%20the%20same%20amount%20of%20time%20as%20the%20bigger%20pan%20would).%20When%20they%20are%20done,%20the%20cake%20will%20start%20pulling%20away%20from%20the%20edges%20of%20the%20pan%20and%20a%20cake%20tester%20inserted%20into%20the%20center%20of%20the%20cake%20will%20come%20out%20with%20only%20a%20few%20crumbs%20attached%20(or%20clean).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20the%20cake%20cool%20completely%20in%20the%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20glaze,%20whisk%20together%20the%20glaze%20ingredients%20in%20a%20small%20bowl.%20Taste%20for%20additional%20salt,%20sugar%20or%20even%20buttermilk.%20Because%20this%20is%20a%20glaze%20and%20not%20a%20frosting,%20if%20the%20recipe%20as%20written%20will%20be%20too%20sweet%20for%20you,%20just%20add%20less%20sugar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20the%20cake%20is%20cool,%20brush%20the%20glaze%20all%20over%20t
