%20This%20may%20seem%20like%20a%20perfectly%20normal%20thing%20to%20do%20if%20one%20imagines%20the%20Hollywood%20version%20of%20California,%20all%20sunshine%20and%20palm%20trees.%20But%20the%20Bay%20Area%20doesn't%20meet%20this%20tropical%20vision.%20Ours%20is%20the%20land%20of%20fog,%20chilly%20summers%20and%20icy%20waters.%20Too%20much%20of%20a%20wuss%20about%20the%20cold,%20I%20(until%20Sunday)%20had%20never%20dipped%20more%20than%20a%20toe%20into%20the%20water%20in%20the%2035%20years%20I've%20lived%20in%20Northern%20California.%20Paul,%20on%20the%20other%20hand,%20surfs%20regularly.%20And%20our%20kids%20-%20Lilah%20a%20self%20proclaimed%20penguin%20and%20Otis%20who%20never%20seems%20to%20get%20cold%20-%20have%20swum%20many%20times,%20but%20not%20I.%20%20I've%20happily%20stayed%20on%20shore,%20usually%20bundled%20in%20sweaters%20and%20scarves,%20watching%20everyone%20frolic%20in%20the%20surf.%20Even%20swathed%20in%20a%20wetsuit%20the%20waters%20are%20seriously%20chilly,%20but%20this%20time,%20I%20was%20determined%20to%20try%20something%20new.%20I%20have%20to%20say,%20it%20felt%20invigorating%20and%20life%20affirming%20to%20move%20beyond%20my%20comfort%20zone%20even%20in%20this%20tiny%20way.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20dip%20into%20unknown%20waters%20seems%20an%20apropos%20metaphor%20for%20my%20life%20at%20the%20moment.%20Since%20sending%20my%20book%20into%20the%20world%20last%20month,%20I%20feel%20as%20though%20I'm%20taking%20the%20plunge%20on%20a%20daily%20basis.%20I'm%20connecting%20with%20new%20people%20every%20day...%20Hosting%20a%20big%20party%20for%20my%20community.%20Teaching%20classes.%20Giving%20talks.%20Sitting%20on%20panels.%20Doing%20book%20signings.%20Giving%20interviews.%20It's%20all%20new%20for%20me.%20Despite%20my%20introverted%20leanings,%20I'm%20trying%20to%20approach%20this%20adventure%20with%20an%20open%20mind%20and%20heart%20and%20so%20far%20I've%20been%20blown%20away%20by%20the%20warmth%20and%20generosity%20I've%20encountered.%20When%20someone%20meets%20me%20with%20a%20smile%20and%20shares%20a%20story%20about%20their%20own%20love%20of%20cooking%20or%20even%20how%20my%20book%20might%20be%20bringing%20a%20little%20extra%20joy%20to%20their%20kitchens,%20I'm%20blown%20away%20and%20filled%20with%20gratitude.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EINGREDIENTS%20per%20serving%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
