A meal at a hawker center restaurant. The most expensive item is the pitcher of beer (Carlsburg)!
The Indochine restaurant and bar on the banks of the Singapore River. Food isn't the best in the city, but the atmosphere and view of the river and lights are knockout.
An after dinner Absynthe (yes!) at the Majestic Bar - picture a DJ spinning in the background and you get the point.
Chinese chili chicken at the Majestic - unbelievable!
Rack of lamb with a fusion tamarind sauce
Another whole fish - steamed in a light soy broth with fresh chili and cilantro.
The best hotel / bar in Singapore! Just at the southern tip of Chinatown.
The Majestic Martinis. That's the Lychee on the right.
Vegetable spring rolls that are very similar to Vietnamese, except the chili sauce is more Chinese...
Raffles and the Singapore Sling are not my top draws to Singapore, but they do a good job of capturing the spirit of the city. In my opinion, Singapore is all about the food; Chinese, Malay, Indian, fusion - it's all there. The best food in Asia, in my opinion - all presented against the lights of the Quays at night, the smells of Little Indian, and the world famous hawker centers (which are really just outdoor food stalls pulled inside by the Singapore government for cleanliness and oversight purposes).
I recently spent a week in the city. A week that was highlighted by consuming 6 whole fish and 3 crabs washed down with a variety of beer, martinis, and (of course) the Singapore Sling.
