White Sandwich Bread

I miss Wonderbread and this is the closest I have been able to make, texture and taste wise. It is not quite as soft and dissolving on your tongue as Wonderbread, but it is soft like a dessert bread and not as sweet.

Ингредиенты

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar, granulated or superfine
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 3/4 cup AP flour
  • 1/4 cup melted butter for brushing tops (optional)

Инструкции

  1. Mix the water and milk together in a small bowl.
  2. Add the yeast to the water and milk.
  3. Set it aside and let it do it's thing.
  4. Mix the butter and sugar together until creamy.
  5. Mix in the egg until completely incorporated.
  6. Add in the yeast mixture and combine thoroughly.
  7. In a seperate bowl, stir together the flour and salt.
  8. Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture a little at a time, until all of it is mixed in and well combined.
  9. Knead just a very little bit, till the dough is smooth and bit sticky. Too much kneading will cause the dough to be less light and fluffy.
  10. Set it in a warm, draft free area, covered with a damp tea towel, until doubled in size. (45 mins to 1.5 hours)
  11. Punch down and put in a buttered and floured bread pan.
  12. Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees F
  13. Let rise again until doubled.
  14. Bake in oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the bottom sounds hollow when knocked.
  15. Let cool and then cut 1/4 - 1/2 inch wide slices when you're ready to make sandwiches.
