%20under%20a%20fan%20catching%20up%20on%20the%20latest%20episodes%20of%20So%20You%20Think%20You%20Can%20Dance%20along%20with%20a%20simple%20dinner%20from%20the%20grill.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELooking%20for%20a%20sweet%20treat,%20Liv%20thankfully%20remembered%20the%20product%20of%20my%20early%20morning%20baking%20extravaganza%20-%20tender,%20sweet,%20Vanilla%20Bean%20Scones.%20%20Topped%20with%20a%20sweet%20glaze%20speckled%20with%20tiny%20vanilla%20bean%20specs,%20I%20originally%20proclaimed%20these%20scones%20bland.%20%20That%20proclamation,%20perhaps%20an%20early%20jump%20to%20conclusion,%20came%20as%20they%20were%20fresh%20from%20the%20oven%20while%20the%20glaze%20was%20still%20%22drippy%22%20and%20not%20set.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELiv%20and%20her%20girlfriend%20a%20few%20hours%20later,%20however,%20had%20a%20very%20opposite%20opinion.%20%20Bringing%20them%20scones%20for%20our%20carpool%20ride%20home,%20each%20girl's%20eyes%20nearly%20popped%20as%20they%20took%20their%20first%20bites,%20and%20asking%20for%20critiques,%20the%20only%20on%20they%20came%20up%20with%20was,%20%22You%20didn't%20bring%20enough!%22.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETaking%20my%20second%20try%20this%20evening,%20I%20have%20to%20agree%20with%20the%20girls.%20%20Tender%20and%20with%20that%20ever%20so%20slight%20%22crunch%22%20as%20one%20bites%20into%20the%20hardened%20vanilla%20glaze,%20these%20delicate%20scones%20had%20me%20slyly%20reaching%20for%20seconds.%20%20A%20wonderful,%20basic%20recipe%20that%20eases%20one's%20sweet%20tooth%20and%20brings%20a%20little%20excitement%20into%20Friday%20night.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpeaking%20of%20Friday%20night,%20it's%209:05.%20%20I%20need%20to%20get%20to%20bed...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVanilla%20Bean%20Scones%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20the%20yogurt%20in%20place%20of%20heavy%20cream%20that%20drew%20me%20to%20this%20recipe%20and%20eased%20my%20guilt%20at%20reaching%20for%20seconds.%20%20Replacing%20a%20bit%20of%20the%20A/P%20flour%20with%20my%20favorite,%20slightly%20sweet%20spelt%20flour%20eased%20my%20guilt%20just%20a%20little%20more.%20%20Jennifer's%20use%20of%20Vanilla%20Beans%20in%20addition%20to%20Vanilla%20Extract%20made%20these%20scones%20even%20more%20tempting%20and%20with%20beans%20left%20over%20form%20our%20Vanilla%20Extract%20Project,%20these%20scones%20hit%20the%20spot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eadapted%20from%20It's%20Baked%20In%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20400%C2%BAF.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20the%20yogurt%20and%20egg%20into%20a%20small%20bowl.%20%20Split%20your%20vanilla%20bean%20and%20scrape%20the%20seeds%20into%20the%20yogurt/egg%20mixture.%20%20Whisk%20to%20combine,%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20flours,%20sugar,%20baking%20powder,%20baking%20soda%20and%20salt%20into%20the%20bowl%20of%20a%20food%20processor%20and%20pulse%20a%20time%20or%20two%20to%20blend.%20%20Add%20the%20chopped%20butter%20chunks%20and%20process%20approximately%2010-15%20times,%20or%20until%20the%20flour%20resembles%20a%20coarse%20meal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20the%20flour%20mixture%20into%20a%20large%20bowl%20and%20add%20the%20yogurt%20mixture.%20%20Stir%20with%20a%20wooden%20spoon%20just%20until%20incorporated%20(using%20a%20light%20hand,%20over%20mixed%20scones%20will%20become%20tough),%20dump%20the%20dough%20onto%20a%20lightly%20floured%20surface%20and%20pat%20to%203/4%20of%20an%20inch%20thickness%20into%20your%20desired%20shape.%20%20We%20pat%20ours%20into%20a%20rectangle,%20and%20cut%20the%20scones%20into%20squares,%20however%20you%20can%20pat%20into%20a%20circle%20and%20cut%20into%20wedges,%20or%20use%20a%20cutter%20to%20cut%20perfect%20circles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20the%20cut%20scones%20onto%20a%20cookie%20sheet%20lined%20with%20parchment%20paper%20or%20a%20silicone%20mat%20at%20least%201%20inch%20apart,%20and%20bake%20until%20very%20lightly%20browned,%20about%209-12%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20baked%20scones%20onto%20a%20cooling%20rack%20and%20cool%20completely.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20scones%20are%20cooling,%20prepare%20your%20glaze.%20%20Place%20the%20powdered%20sugar,%20vanilla%20extract%20and%20the%20seeds%20from%201/2%20of%20a%20vanilla%20bean%20into%20the%20bowl.%20%20Whisk%20to%20combine.%20%20Add%201%20Tbs%20of%20the%20milk%20and%20whisk.%20%20Add%20the%20remaining%20milk%20about%20a%20teaspoon%20at%20a%20time%20until%20you%20have%20reached%20your%20desired%20consistency%20-%20thicker%20will%20obviously%20produce%20a%20thicker%20glaze,%20thinner%20a%20thinner%20version.%20%20Mix%20what%20to%20your%20taste%20-%20Liv%20prefers%20a%20medium%20thick%20for%20a%20decently%20thick%20glaze%20on%20the%20scone.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDip%20the%20tops%20of%20your%20scones%20into%20the%20glaze%20and%20replace%20onto%20the%20cooling%20rack%20until%20the%20glaze%20has%20set.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELiv%20Life%20Note:%20%20Note%20that%20scones%20are%20usually%20best%20the%20day%20they%20are%20made,%20these%20however%20were%20a%20nice%20breakfast%20treat%20the%20morning%20after.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
