San Francisco’s Tacolicious is fast on its way to becoming its own mini empire. The restaurant was established by Owner Joe Hargrave in 2009, who is married to San Francisco magazine editor, Sara Deseran, who, not coincidentally, is the author of the upcoming cookbook, “Tacolicious” (Ten Speed Press).

.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20a%20chance%20to%20try%20samples%20of%20the%20new%20line%20of%20salsas%20and%20cooking%20sauces.%20Proceeds%20from%20the%20sale%20of%20the%20products%20go%20to%20the%20Tacolicious%20School%20Project,%20which%20supports%20neighborhood%20public%20schools%20in%20San%20Francisco.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBreak%20out%20the%20chips.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20instance,%20for%20the%20mole,%20the%20label%20instructed%20to%20add%20it%20to%203%20pounds%20of%20seared%20boneless,%20skinless%20chicken%20thighs,%20then%20cook%20in%20a%20Dutch%20oven%20for%201%20hour%20at%20350%20degrees.%20I%20did%20just%20that%20and%20was%20rewarded%20with%20an%20earthy,%20nutty,%20complex%20braise%20that%20I%20served%20over%20warmed%20corn%20tortillas.%20With%20a%20mix%20of%20Pasilla,%20Guajillo,%20Mulato%20and%20Chipotle%20chiles,%20as%20well%20as%20pumpkin%20seeds,%20toasted%20almonds,%20garlic,%20cinnamon%20and%20Mexican%20chocolate,%20it%E2%80%99s%20a%20sauce%20with%20a%20plenty%20of%20depth.%20The%20chocolate%20especially%20gives%20it%20a%20slight%20richness.%20Mole%20is%20one%20of%20the%20most%20laborious%20sauces%20to%20make,%20so%20a%20ready-made%20jar%20makes%20it%20all%20the%20easier%20to%20enjoy%20it%20more%20often%20and%20on%20the%20spur%20of%20the%20moment.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Guajillo%20braising%20sauce%20sports%20a%20medium%20amount%20of%20spiciness%20from%20red%20chiles%20and%20a%20wonderful%20smokiness.%20A%20slight%20hoppy%20bitterness%20is%20evident%20from%20the%20bock%20beer.%20The%20label%20suggests%20using%20it%20on%203%20pounds%20of%20boneless%20short%20ribs%20(I%20used%20boneless%20beef%20stew%20meat%20instead),%20then%20cooking%20it%20in%20a%20Dutch%20oven%20for%20two%20hours.%20The%20instructions%20also%20indicated%20to%20add%20a%20cup%20of%20water%20to%20the%20pan.%20However,%20you%E2%80%99ll%20probably%20need%20to%20add%20at%20%20least%202%20cups%20of%20water.%20With%20a%20longer%20cooking%20time,%20the%20sauce%20will%20cook%20down%20to%20almost%20nothing%20in%20the%20pot%20otherwise.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThree%20cooking%20sauces%20by%20Tacolicious.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20trio%20of%20salsas%20from%20Tacolicious.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Tacolicious%20line%20also%20includes%20three%20salsas:%20Tacolicious%20Avocado%20Tomatillo,%20Tacolicious%20Chipotle,%20and%20Tacolicious%20Habanero.%20Each%2012-ounce%20jar%20is%20$9.95.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20mild%20avocado%20tomatillo%20one%20is%20really%20perky%20and%20tangy%20with%20just%20a%20tickle%20of%20gentle%20heat.%20The%20chipotle%20one%20is%20medium-hot%20with%20pronounced%20smokiness%20and%20meatiness%20from%20paprika%20and%20smoked%20peppers.%20The%20mustard-hued%20habanero%20is%20only%20for%20those%20who%20really%20like%20fire.%20My%20husband%20gingerly%20dipped%20the%20edge%20of%20a%20tortilla%20chip%20into%20it,%20chewed%20and%20declared,%20%E2%80%9COK,%20that%20is%20not%20enjoyable.%E2%80%9D%20I%20did%20the%20same%20and%20came%20away%20forced%20to%20concede%20a%20one%20chip-maximum%20with%20that%20one.%20The%20Tacolicious%20folks,%20though,%20explain%20that%20the%20salsas%20are%20not%20necessarily%20meant%20to%20be%20eaten%20with%20chips%20that%20way,%20but%20instead%20drizzled%20into%20tacos%20or%20over%20grilled%20fish%20or%20meats.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20Tacolicious%20hasn%E2%80%99t%20yet%20conquered%20a%20neighborhood%20near%20you,%20its%20new%20line%20of%20salsas%20and%20sauces%20is%20one%20way%20to%20bring%20its%20bold%20flavors%20home.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShare%20and%20Enjoy%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
