- Preheat the oven to 190 C, 375 F, Gas Mark 5.
- Cut the swede lengthways into four pcs. Thinly slice each quarter.
- Place the flour with seasoning into a mixing bowl. Add in the swede slices and toss well to proportionately coat the slices in flour.
- Generously grease an ovenproof dish with half the butter. Rub the crushed garlic over the inside of the dish.
- Layer the flour coated swede slices in the dish with the grated gruyere cheese.
- Dot the remining butter over the surface of the slices and carefully pour over the cream.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 1 1/2 hrs till golden and the swede is tender. Cover with foil during cooking if over browing.
- NOTES : A rich, delicisous dish which makes an ideal accompaniment.
