- Slice sausage diagonally. Saute/fry with onion, pepper, garlic and fresh mushrooms. When vegetables are soft, stir in remaining ingredients (add in canned mushrooms at this time) and heat till bubbly. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook 30 to 40 min to develop a great smokey Italian flavor. Serve warm with your favorite pasta linguini, spaghetti, or possibly fettucini. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
