,%20that%20tasty%20morsel%20doesn't%20have%20a%20prayer%20for%20survival.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20just%20figured%20whatever%20latent%20sugar%20addiction%20I%20seem%20to%20have%20would%20doom%20me%20to%20a%20life%20of%20restriction%20and%20not%20keeping%20yummy%20treats%20in%20my%20house%20since%20I%20apparently%20have%20no%20self-control.%20And%20then,%20a%20magical%20thing%20happened%20-%20a%20friend%20suggested%20I%20try%20a%20raw%20diet.%20She%20said%20that%20it%20helps%20control%20appetite%20and%20that,%20even%20though%20everything%20is%20free%20of%20processed%20sugar,%20the%20desserts%20tend%20to%20be%20sweeter%20and%20hit%20the%20spot%20without%20the%20sugar%20addiction.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20intrigued%20by%20this%20notion,%20but%20then%20she%20asked%20me%20-%20what%20do%20I%20think%20about%20the%20raw%20diet?%20The%20answer:%20I%20don't%20(or%20rather,%20at%20the%20time,%20I%20didn't).%20I%20didn't%20know%20anything%20about%20it%20so%20I%20felt%20I%20couldn't%20draw%20an%20opinion%20about%20it,%20but%20I%20wasn't%20compelled%20to%20get%20information%20about%20it,%20either.%20Before%20I%20launched%20into%20raw%20experimentation,%20I%20started%20to%20read%20up%20on%20the%20subject.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20that%20I've%20read%20two%20books%20on%20raw%20foodism,%20my%20opinion%20is...well,%20it's%20still%20a%20work%20in%20progress.%20I%20think%20some%20of%20the%20principles%20of%20going%20raw,%20while%20others%20trigger%20the%20%22common%20sense%22%20button%20and%20reinforce%20that%20I'm%20not%20the%20type%20to%20go%20totally%20raw.%20For%20example,%20the%20authors%20have%20talked%20about%20how%20going%20raw%20is%20very%20filling%20because%20the%20food%20stuffs%20are%20all%20full%20of%20fiber,%20which%20is%20a%20great%20plus%20for%20weight%20loss.%20I%20definitely%20agree%20with%20that,%20and%20I%20have%20made%20a%20point%20of%20incorporating%20raw%20snacks%20into%20my%20day%20and%20having%20some%20raw%20sides%20with%20my%20cooked%20entree.%20Other%20stuff%20just%20seems%20off.%20For%20example,%20one%20author%20stated%20that%20when%20you%20go%20totally%20raw,%20you%20can%20just%20follow%20your%20body's%20cravings.%20That%20means%20some%20days%20she'll%20just%20eat%20oranges%20and%20avocados,%20and%20she'll%20feel%20ethereal%20all%20day.%20I%20can't%20help%20but%20wonder%20if%20she%20feels%20ethereal%20because%20she's%20starving.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENonetheless,%20I%20decided%20to%20start%20experimenting%20with%20raw%20desserts.%20I%20decided%20that,%20since%20I%20don't%20exactly%20eat%20treats%20for%20nutritional%20value,%20I%20should%20try%20the%20raw%20versions%20of%20some%20sweets.%20Since%20I%20just%20wanted%20something%20that%20tastes%20good,%20I%20truly%20didn't%20care%20about%20the%20purported%20health%20advantages%20of%20eating%20raw.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHappily,%20I%20was%20thrilled%20to%20find%20out%20that%20raw%20desserts%20(or%20at%20least%20the%20ones%20I've%20tried%20so%20far)%20are%20delicious!%20They%20are%20mostly%20made%20out%20of%20nuts%20and%20fruit,%20so%20no%20sugar%20addiction,%20and%20the%20surplus%20of%20fiber%20in%20the%20final%20product%20sated%20my%20appetite%20very%20quickly.%20And%20of%20course,%20the%20most%20important%20thing%20-%20they%20fill%20the%20bill%20when%20I%20need%20a%20treat!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20item%20that%20has%20been%20particularly%20popular%20in%20my%20house%20and%20with%20guests%20is%20raw%20apple%20pie,%20I%20recipe%20I%20tried%20from%20Any%20Phyo's%20book%20The%20Raw%20Food%20Kitchen.%20I've%20made%20it%20a%20few%20times%20now,%20and%20it's%20always%20a%20winner.%20It%20is%20both%20sweet%20with%20crunchy%20apples%20at%20the%20same%20time,%20and%20the%20crust%20is%20to%20die%20for.%20Plus,%20instead%20of%20clearing%20out%20half%20a%20pie%20tin%20(like%20I%20am%20fully%20capable%20of%20doing),%20one%20slice%20is%20totally%20satisfying%20and%20my%20craving%20is%20curbed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20I%20experiment%20more%20with%20the%20raw%20food%20diet,%20I%20will%20post%20my%20winners%20and%20failures.%20For%20now,%20enjoy%20this%20classic%20apple%20pie%20without%20turning%20on%20your%20oven!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Best%20Raw%20Apple%20Pie%20(adapted%20from%20Ani%20Phyo)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYields:%20One%20pie%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECrust%20ingredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1)%20To%20make%20the%20crust:%20pulse%20almonds%20in%20food%20processor%20until%20you%20have%20small,%20ground%20up%20almond%20bits.%20(Be%20sure%20to%20pulse%20-%20if%20you%20go%20too%20fast,%20you'll%20make%20almond%20butter.)%20Add%20salt,%20and%20gradually%20pulse%20in%20dates.%20Start%20with%20two%20cups,%20and%20keep%20adding%20dates%20until%20the%20crust%20starts%20to%20stick%20together.%20This%20could%20be%20a%20huge%20number%20of%20dates;%20don't%20sweat%20it.%20When%20the%20crust%20is%20done,%20pat%20down%20into%20a%20pie%20pan%20like%20a%20regular%20pie%20crust.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2)%20To%20make%20the%20syrup,%20liquefy%20orange%20in%20a%20blender.%20Blend%20in%20dates.%20Gradually%20add%20water%20until%20you%20have%20a%20syrupy%20cons
