Fall is a very strange season for those of us who live in California. This weekend, while were away on vacation, it rained. Today, it was almost 90 degrees! It's hard for me to accept that summer has officially ended-- especially, when I'm dressed in shorts, a tank top and flip-flops. You see, October is that strange in-between time of seasons for most Californians. Fresh peaches and strawberries are still for sale, and I still have a few tomatoes that are clinging on for dear life-- with hues of pale orange. They're trying to turn red!

.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20morning,%20I%20slept%20in,%20while%20Craig%20returned%20back%20to%20work.%20%20I%20had%20an%20unquenchable%20craving%20for%20pumpkin.%20%20%20I%20had%20bookmarked%20this%20recipe%20from%20%22Two%20Peas%20and%20their%20Pod%22,%20and%20even%20pinned%20it%20on%20Pinterest.%20%20I%20set%20my%20timer%20for%2015%20minutes,%20and%20it%20took%20a%20little%20less%20than%20that%20to%20make%20the%20streusel%20and%20the%20batter.%20%20Streusel%20is%20pretty%20basic%20to%20make--%20flour,%20cinnamon%20and%20butter.%20%20With%20my%20hands,%20I%20combined%20everything%20and%20then%20used%20a%20fork%20to%20make%20even%20%22crumbs%22.%20Done.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20wet%20ingredients,%20I%20used%20milk,%20pumpkin%20puree%20(not%20pumpkin%20pie%20filling),%20egg,%20vanilla,%20canola%20oil%20and%20pure%20vanilla.%20%20Add%20the%20wet%20ingredients%20to%20the%20dry,%20and%20whisk%20just%20until%20combined.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20griddle%20is%20set%20to%20medium-low,%20and%20prefer%20to%20add%20an%20even%20layer%20of%20vegetable%20oil%20with%20a%20paper%20towel.%20You%20can%20use%20non-stick%20spray,%20if%20you%20wish.%20%20Measure%20about%201/3%20cup%20of%20the%20batter%20and%20then%20sprinkle%20about%201-2%20Tablespoons%20of%20the%20streusel,%20evenly.%20%20Cook%20until%20bubbles%20begin%20to%20form;%20carefully%20flip%20over%20the%20pancake...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E...then%20add%20more%20streusel%20on%20top.%20%20Cook%20another%202-3%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20smell%20wonderful.%20%20My%20son%20was%20very%20pleased%20that%20mom%20was%20making%20breakfast.%20That's%20a%20treat%20for%20him,%20since%20I%20normally%20work%20days%20and%20he%20works%20nights.%20%20It's%20always%20a%20treat%20for%20me,%20to%20have%20breakfast%20with%20just%20the%20two%20of%20us.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have,%20finally,%20%20converted%20my%20husband%20and%20son%20to%20the%20virtues%20of%20Pure%20Maple%20Syrup.%20%20If%20you%20are%20using%20pancake%20syrup,%20I%20beg%20you%20to%20spend%20a%20few%20dollars%20more%20and%20to%20try%20Pure%20Maple%20Syrup.%20%20I%20find%20that%20I%20don't%20need%20to%20use%20a%20lot%20of%20maple%20syrup--%20it's%20plenty%20sweet.%20Trust%20me,%20you%20will%20never%20go%20back!%20%20%20I%20decided%20not%20to%20add%20more%20butter%20to%20the%20pancakes.%20%20I%20figured%20since%20the%20streusel%20had%20plenty%20of%20butter%20in%20it,%20that%20would%20be%20enough.%20Let's%20see%20how%20these%20taste...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVERDICT:%20%20The%20whole%20wheat%20to%20white%20flour%20ratio%20is%20just%20right.%20%20The%20pancakes%20are%20surprisingly%20tender,%20while%20the%20whole%20wheat%20lends%20a%20little%20bit%20of%20density%20to%20the%20pancake.%20%20The%20pumpkin-spice%20is%20perfect.%20Personally,%20I'm%20glad%20that%20I%20didn't%20add%20more%20butter,%20nor%20did%20I%20pour%20on%20a%20lot%20of%20syrup.%20%20These%20pancakes%20are%20very%20rich%20and%20filling.%20I%20could%20only%20eat%20one,%20and%20it%20wasn't%20for%20lack%20of%20loving%20them.%20%20I%20simply%20felt%20full,%20after%20eating%20one%20pancake.%20Amen.%20%20My%20son%20could%20only%20eat%20two--%20and%20he's%20a%20hearty%20eater.%20%20The%20sweetness%20of%20the%20streusel%20was%20just%20slightly%20on%20the%20edge%20of%20being%20a%20little%20too%20much--%20so%20I%20suggest%20adding%20the%20streusel%20only%20once%20the%20pancake%20has%20been%20cooked%20on%20one%20side,%20and%20flipped.%20%20For%20those%20of%20you%20who%20have%20a%20strong%20sweet%20tooth,%20then%20be%20my%20guest%20and%20use%20the%20streusel%20on%20both%20sides.%20%20There%20are%20a%20few%20pancakes%20left,%20and%20I%20have%20no%20problem%20heating%20them%20up%20tomorrow%20morning.%20%20I'm%20sure%20they'll%20taste%20wonderful,%20with%20a%20cup%20of%20hot%20coffee.%20%20I%20doubt%20I%20can%20ever%20have%20a%20pumpkin%20overdose!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20won't%20do%20a%20long%20post%20about%20our%20road%20trip,%20but...%20Craig%20and%20I%20drove%20to%20Bodega%20(Bay),%20one%20afternoon%20and%20I%20spotted%20this%20house.%20I%20quickly%20pulled%20over%20and%20grabbed%20my%20camera.%20%20I%20got%20so%20excited%20that%20I%20found%20this%20house!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDo%20any%20of%20you%20Alfred%20Hitchcock%20Movie%20Buffs%20recognize%20this%20house?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt's%20where%20one%20of%20the%20most%20famous%20scenes%20from%20%22The%20Birds%22%20was%20filmed.%20This%20is%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20classic%20horror%20films.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E...there's%20the%20church%20that%20was%20also%20in%20the%20movie.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E...%20and%20one%20grave%20marker.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20hot%20weather%20is%20supposed%20to%20stick%20around%20through%20next%20week.%20%20I%20have%20to%20rethink%20my%20dinner%20plans.%20%20Pumpkin,%20however,%20is%20something%20I%20enjoy%20year-round.%20I%20hoard%20pumpkin%20puree,%20by%20the%20way.%20%20(Maybe%20that's%20why%20there's%20a%20supposed%20pumpkin%20shortage.%20Ha!)%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
