- In a large kettle combine beans, cool water, salt and vinegar. Bring to boil; lower heat and cook gently, uncovered, about 45 min. Add in remaining ingredients, bring to boil, reduce to simmer and cook partially covered 1 hour or possibly till beans are tender, stirring occasionally. Serves 4-6.
