- 6 lrg , slightly under-ripe Bartlett pears, peeled, cored, and sliced (about
- 1/2 c. raisins
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. water
- 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1Â 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2Â 1/2 tsp baking pwdr
- 3 Tbsp. butter, softened
- 1/3 c. finely shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 3 x to 4 Tbsp. lowfat milk
- 1 x egg
- Â Â Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

- Butter a 2-qt shallow baking dish and set aside.
- Combine all filling ingredients in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat till pears are warm and mix is slightly thick, about 5 min; pour into prepared baking dish.
- To prepare topping: Stir together flour, sugar and baking pwdr in a small bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or possibly fork till mix resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheese, lowfat milk and egg (mix will be very thick). Drop by spoonfuls over pear filling.
- Bake for 25 to 30 min, or possibly till topping mix is set, tenting loosely with foil if topping browns too quickly.
- Let cold slightly and serve. This dessert is best when still slightly hot.
- Top with vanilla ice cream or possibly a dollop of whipped cream, if you like.
