%20their%20name,%20I%20did%20add%20some%20of%20my%20own%20touches%20and%20really%20loved%20this%20vibrant%20and%20cheery%20drink%20which%20is%20sort%20of%20a%20combined%20mimosa%20and%20martini%20and%20it%20is%20so%20simple%20and%20so%20good!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%E2%80%99re%20anticipating%20a%20huge%20snowstorm%20this%20weekend.%20In%20most%20years%20our%20forecast%20of%2012-18%20inches%20of%20snow%20would%20be%20big%20but%20considering%20what%20the%20Northeast%20has%20seen%20this%20year,%20that%20seems%20paltry%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20it?%20But%20it%E2%80%99s%20not;%20it%E2%80%99s%20still%20a%20big%20storm%20and%20I%20wanted%20to%20make%20something%20that%20both%20celebrated%20the%20season%20of%20citrus%20(now)%20with%20a%20vibrant,%20pretty%20cocktail%20that%20was%20spirit%20lifting.%20I%E2%80%99m%20also%20roasting%20a%20huge%20pork%20butt%20to%20use%20for%20Cubano%20sandwiches.%20I%E2%80%99ve%20wanted/needed%20an%20excuse%20to%20make%20them%20ever%20since%20I%20saw%20the%20movie%20%E2%80%98Chef.%E2%80%99%20This%20weekend%20just%20sounded%20like%20the%20right%20time;%20we%E2%80%99re%20going%20to%20need%20some%20warmth%20and%20some%20cheer;%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20thinking%20these%20two%20should%20do%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20didn%E2%80%99t%20have%20the%20vodka%20that%20was%20used%20at%20the%20restaurant%20but%20it%20seemed%20simple%20enough%20to%20make%20my%20own.%20Infusing%20spirits%20is%20easy;%20add%20some%20fruit%20or%20herbs%20to%20vodka%20and%20wait%20two%20days.%20It%E2%80%99s%20not%20like%20making%20a%20liqueur%20when%20you%20add%20sugar%20to%20the%20mix%20and%20wait%202-4%20weeks.%20You%20just%20want%20a%20touch%20of%20that%20flavor%20in%20vodka%20that%20is%20used%20in%20cocktails.%20Because%20it%20is%20a%20short%20brewing%20time,%20I%20simply%20added%20orange%20slices,%20pith%20and%20all.%20If%20you%20were%20using%20a%20stronger%20proof%20and%20letting%20it%20meld%20longer,%20that%20would%20be%20a%20mistake%20because%20the%20pith%20can%20be%20bitter,%20but%20for%20this%20quicker%20brewing%20time%20it%20was%20not%20an%20issue.%20Use%20a%20decent%20vodka,%20neither%20too%20cheap%20or%20too%20pricey,%20medium%20is%20just%20right!%20Right%20before%20I%20strained%20it,%20I%20muddled%20it%20a%20bit%20too%20to%20extract%20a%20bit%20more%20of%20the%20juice.%20This%20vodka%20is%20so%20good%20I%20could%20almost%20drink%20it%20straight%20and%20thinking%20that%20for%20summer%20I%E2%80%99ll%20do%20that;%20freeze%20it%20and%20serve%20it%20as%20icy%20shots.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20sparkling%20part%20of%20this%20cocktail%20I%20used%20Freixenet;%20a%20Spanish%20Cava%20that%20is%20named%20after%20the%20Ferrer%20family%E2%80%99s%2013th%20century%20family%20home%20in%20La%20Freixeneda%20(literally%20meaning%20a%20place%20where%20ash%20trees%20grow%20in%20Catalan).%20A%20combination%20of%2035%25%20Macabeo,%2025%25%20Xarel%C2%B7lo%20and%2040%25%20Parellada%20grapes,%20Freixenet%20Cava%20has%20an%20exceptional,%20fresh,%20fruity%20style%20and%20a%20lingering%20aroma%20and%20one%20that%20I%20have%20enjoyed%20on%20its%E2%80%99%20own.%20Discovering%20this%20review%20on%20Wine%20Spectator,%20%E2%80%98This%20shows%20more%20finesse%20than%20many%20of%20its%20peers,%20displaying%20a%20subtle%20juiciness,%20joined%20by%20aromatic%20apricot,%20quince,%20mandarin%20orange%20and%20almond%20notes.%20Finely%20meshed,%20with%20a%20lightly%20spiced%20finish,%E2%80%99%20I%20decided%20that%20it%20would%20be%20the%20perfect%20partner%20for%20this%20citrus%20based%20cocktail.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%E2%80%99s%20to%20Cubanos,%20citrus%20and%20snow%20all%20in%20one%20weekend.%20Who%E2%80%99s%20coming%20over?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOrange%20Sunshine%20Martini%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20oz%20vodka%20(orange%20infused%20if%20you%20prefer)%201%20oz%20orange%20liqueur%20(I%20use%20Citronge)%201%20oz%20OJ%201%20oz%20Agave%20Nectar%20or%20Simple%20Syrup%20Chilled%20Cava%20Orange%20wheels%20for%20garnish%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPut%20all%20ingredients%20except%20Cava%20into%20a%20cocktail%20shaker%20with%20ice.%20Shake%20vigorously%20until%20mixture%20is%20icy%20cold.%20Pour%20into%20chilled%20glasses,%20top%20with%20sparkling%20wine%20and%20garnish%20with%20an%20orange%20wheel.%20%20%20To%20Make%20the%20orange%20infused%20vodka:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20the%20orange%20slices%20and%20vodka%20in%20a%20glass%20container.%20Leave%20out%20at%20room%20temperature%20for%20two%20days.%20Lightly%20muddle%20the%20oranges%20slices%20after%20two%20days%20and%20strain%20the%20liquid%20through%20a%20fine%20mesh%20strainer%20into%20a%20bottle.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.2.2925%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
