%20and%20baking%20bread%20(her).%20%20This%20is%20not%20because%20we%20need%20bread%20for%20sandwiches%20for%20the%20upcoming%20week%E2%80%99s%20lunches,%20although%20this%20recipe%20would%20be%20perfect%20for%20that.%20%20Sundays%20are%20meant%20for%20bread%20baking%20at%20home%20because%20try%20as%20we%20might%20this%20past%20Sunday,%20we%20were%20told%20again%20and%20again%20to%20just%20go%20home.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20first%20message%20came%20when%20we%20awoke,%20ambitious%20and%20bushy-tailed,%20ready%20to%20tackle%20all%20of%20the%20projects%20in%20our%20pastures.%20%20We%20made%20a%20list,%20jumped%20in%20the%20car,%20and%20drove%20to%20the%20city%20at%209am.%20%20Only%20when%20we%20noticed%20a%20distinct%20absence%20of%20cars%20on%20the%20road%20and%20vehicles%20parked%20in%20the%20lots%20did%20the%20light%20bulb%20come%20on:%20blue%20laws.%20No%20goods%20sold%20prior%20to%201:30pm.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20we%20headed%20home.%20%20And%20that%E2%80%99s%20when%20I%20picked%20out%20this%20recipe%20to%20bake.%20%20It%20is%20slightly%20sweet%20and%20perfect%20as%20a%20side%20to%20a%20hearty%20black%20bean%20chili%20or%20as%20a%20base%20for%20the%20old%20standby%20of%20PB&J.%20%20But%20after%20I%20threw%20this%20loaf%20in%20the%20mixer%20and%20set%20aside%20the%20dough%20to%20rise,%20I%20was%20itching%20to%20get%20started%20on%20Christmas%20baking.%20%20By%20this%20time%20it%20was%20after%202pm%20and%20so%20the%20%E2%80%98Vore%20and%20I%20ventured%20back%20into%20the%20city%20for%20the%20second%20time%20that%20day%20to%20pick%20up%20Christmas%20cookie%20tins,%20food%20coloring,%20and%20perhaps%20a%20nice%20bottle%20of%20wine%20to%20go%20with%20the%20dinner%20I%20was%20planning%20to%20make.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20we%20realized%20we%20hadn%E2%80%99t%20learned%20our%20lesson%20in%20blue%20laws%20fully%20enough%20when%20the%20squeaky%20voiced,%20pimply%20faced%20teenager%20informed%20us%20that%20no%20alcohol%20is%20sold%20on%20Sundays.%20%20Duh.%20%20So%20we%20returned%20home.%20%20The%20dough%20was%20done%20rising%20so%20I%20placed%20it%20into%20my%20loaf%20pan%20to%20bake%20and%20got%20to%20work%20on%20more%20various%20chores.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20after%20a%20hard%20day%E2%80%99s%20work,%20we%20decided%20that%20we%20should%20just%20go%20out%20to%20our%20new%20favorite%20restaurant%20(and%20it%20is%20only%20our%20favorite%20because%20it%20is%20the%20only%20joint%20within%20a%20half%20hour%20drive%20of%20home)%20for%20dinner%20instead%20of%20eating%20at%20home.%20%20And%20as%20we%20pulled%20into%20the%20parking%20lot%20of%20the%20restaurant,%20it%20dawned%20on%20us:%20%20the%20restaurant%20is%20closed%20on%20Sundays.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThank%20goodness%20we%20had%20this%20tender,%20delicious,%20wonderful%20bread%20awaiting%20us%20at%20home,%20where%20we%20should%20have%20been%20all%20along.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20mixing%20bowl,%20combine%20the%20water,%20oats,%20sugar,%20honey,%20butter,%20and%20salt.%20%20Let%20cool%20to%20lukewarm.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20yeast%20and%20flours,%20stirring%20to%20form%20a%20rough%20dough.%20Knead%20(about%2010%20minutes%20by%20hand,%205%20to%207%20minutes%20by%20machine)%20until%20the%20dough%20is%20smooth%20and%20satiny.%20Transfer%20the%20dough%20to%20a%20lightly%20greased%20bowl,%20cover%20the%20bowl%20with%20lightly%20greased%20plastic%20wrap,%20and%20allow%20the%20dough%20to%20rise%20for%201%20hour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDivide%20the%20dough%20in%20half,%20and%20shape%20each%20half%20into%20a%20loaf.%20Place%20the%20loaves%20in%20two%20greased%208%201/2%20x%204%201/2-inch%20bread%20pans.%20Cover%20the%20pans%20with%20lightly%20greased%20plastic%20wrap%20and%20allow%20the%20loaves%20to%20rise%20till%20they%E2%80%99ve%20crowned%20about%201%20inch%20over%20the%20rim%20of%20the%20pan,%20about%201%20hour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(I%20used%20a%20pan%20de%20mie%20loaf%20pan).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20the%20loaves%20in%20a%20preheated%20360%C2%B0F%20oven%20for%2033%20minutes.*%20Remove%20them%20from%20the%20oven%20when%20they%E2%80%99re%20golden%20brown,%20and%20the%20interior%20registers%20190%C2%B0F%20on%20an%20instant-read%20thermometer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*If%20your%20oven%20can%E2%80%99t%20be%20set%20at%20360%C2%B0F,%20set%20it%20at%20350%C2%B0F%20and%20bake%20the%20bread%20for%2035%20to%2040%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20post%20has%20been%20submitted%20to%20Yeastspotting.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
