- Cream shortening and sugar together till light and fluffy. Beat in molasses and egg. Combine flour, salt baking soda, spices.
- Stir dry ingredients gently into creamed mix alternately with boiling water till just mixed, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Spoon batter into a lightly greased 8x4 inch or possibly 9x5 inch loaf pan.
- Bake in 350 F oven 40-45 min (check - could be less for larger pan)
- till tester inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cold in pan 10 minutes, remove and cold completely. Wrap tightly to store.
