,%20her%20semi-autobiographical%20novel%20about%20chef%20Rachel%20Samstat,%20who%20loses%20her%20way%20during%20her%20second%20husband's%20adultery,%20I%20knew%20she%20would%20always%20be%20a%20part%20of%20my%20pantheon%20of%20favorite%20authors.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20delighted%20when%20%22Heartburn%22%20became%20the%20featured%20selection%20of%20Cook%20the%20Books,%20a%20bimonthly%20foodie%20book%20club%20that%20I%20and%20three%20of%20my%20good%20blogger%20buddies%20co-host.%20Simona,%20of%20the%20blog,%20Briciole,%20is%20the%20host%20of%20this%20round%20of%20Cook%20the%20Books,%20and%20she%20has%20enlisted%20Laura%20Lippstone,%20a%20big%20Ephron%20fan%20and%20blogger%20at%20Planet%20Lippstone,%20to%20serve%20as%20guest%20judge%20of%20the%20posts%20that%20we%20all%20write%20featuring%20our%20book%20selection%20and%20the%20foods%20we%20cook%20up%20inspired%20by%20our%20reading.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDipping%20back%20into%20%22Heartburn%22%20was%20a%20nostalgic%20read:%20there%20was%20the%20nostalgia%20of%20seeing%20that%20great%20dust%20jacket%20art,%20the%20familiarity%20of%20sinking%20back%20into%20Ephron's%20words%20like%20having%20a%20cozy%20conversation%20with%20a%20great%20friend%20that%20one%20hasn't%20seen%20in%20a%20bunch%20of%20years,%20and%20nostalgia%20for%20the%201980s%20world%20that%20pervades%20its%20pages.%20Ephron%20describes%20Samstat's%20longing%20for%20the%20great%20produce%20sections%20of%20New%20York%20City%20supermarkets%20and%20gourmet%20shops%20that%20she%20left%20behind%20when%20she%20moved%20to%20Washington%20D.C.%20and%20that%20made%20me%20remember%20how%20arugula%20and%20twelve%20different%20kinds%20of%20peppers%20didn't%20used%20to%20be%20a%20common%20site%20at%20the%20average%20food%20store.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20there%20was%20that%20passage%20that%20made%20me%20laugh%20out%20loud%20when%20I%20first%20read%20and%20reread%20it%20to%20my%20friends%20back%20in%20the%20early%20Eighties,%20and%20which%20I%20read%20and%20snorted%20through%20and%20reread%20to%20my%20husband%20now%20that%20we're%20in%20the%202000-teens.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22When%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20in%20college,%20I%20had%20a%20list%20of%20what%20I%20wanted%20in%20a%20husband.%20A%20long%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Elist.%20I%20wanted%20a%20registered%20Democrat,%20a%20bridge%20player,%20a%20linguist%20with%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eplayer.%20I%20wanted%20a%20man%20who%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20bald,%20who%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20fat,%20who%20wasn%E2%80%99t%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecovered%20with%20too%20much%20body%20hair.%20I%20wanted%20a%20man%20with%20long%20legs%20and%20a%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Esmall%20ass%20and%20laugh%20wrinkles%20around%20the%20eyes.%20Then%20I%20grew%20up%20and%20settled%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Efor%20a%20low-grade%20lunatic%20who%20kept%20hamsters.%20At%20first%20I%20thought%20he%20was%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Echarming%20and%20eccentric.%20And%20then%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t.%20Then%20I%20wanted%20to%20kill%20him.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEvery%20time%20he%20got%20on%20a%20plane,%20I%20would%20imagine%20the%20plane%20crash,%20and%20the%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Efuneral,%20and%20what%20I%20would%20wear%20to%20the%20funeral%20and%20flirting%20at%20the%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Efuneral,%20and%20how%20soon%20I%20could%20start%20dating%20after%20the%20funeral.%E2%80%9D%20(p.83)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EToss%20all%20of%20the%20vegetables%20in%20the%20first%20part%20above%20with%20garlic,%201/3%20cup%20olive%20oil,%20salt%20and%20pepper%20on%20a%20cookie%20sheet.%20Coat%20thoroughly%20with%20oil%20and%20then%20roast%20in%20a%20425%20degree%20oven%20until%20browned,%20turning%20at%20least%20once%20with%20a%20spatula.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECook%20pasta%20and%20drain.%20Toss%20with%20roasted%20vegetables.%20Mix%20dressing%20and%20pour%20over%20pasta%20and%20vegetables.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGently%20toss%20in%20scallions,%20nuts,%20feta%20and%20basil.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20at%20room%20temperature.%20Serves%206-8.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDiane%20says%20to%20try%20throwing%20in%20some%20cremini%20mushrooms,%20yellow%20and%20green%20squash%20or%20zucchini,%20if%20you%20want.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESimona%20will%20be%20rounding%20up%20all%20the%20delicious%20Hearburn%20blog%20posts%20back%20at%20the%20Cook%20the%20Books%20site%20after%20today's%20deadline,%20so%20be%20sure%20to%20stop%20by%20and%20see%20what%20everyone%20cooked%20up.%20And%20don't%20forget%20to%20join%20us%20in%20reading,%20cooking%20and%20blogging%20up%20our%20thoughts%20about%20%22The%20Hunger%20Games%22,%20by%20Suzanne%20Collins,%20both%20book%20and%20film,%20for%20our%20next%20round%20of%20Cook%20the%20Books!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
