%20and%20it%20seemed%20jerky%20to%20subject%20God%20to%20that.%20I%20mean,%20He%E2%80%99s%20GOD%20and%20He%E2%80%99s%20listening%20to%20a%20choir%20of%20who%20knows%20how%20many%20angels,%20the%20worship%20of%20people%20who%20can%20sing%20all%20over%20the%20world%20.%20.%20.%20and%20then%20there%E2%80%99s%20me.%20Lip-syncing%20was%20the%20only%20reasonable%20decision.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20I%20was%20in%20college,%20Mike%20and%20I%20took%20a%20couple%20of%20months%20to%20try%20all%20different%20types%20of%20churches.%20I%20wanted%20a%20bigger%20picture%20of%20the%20Church%20as%20a%20whole;%20Mike%20wanted%20to%20see%20if%20there%20was%20anything%20out%20there%20worth%20exploring%20(he%E2%80%99s%20an%20atheist.)%20We%20visited%20a%20Quaker%20Friends%20meeting,%20an%20extremely%20traditional%20SSPX%20church,%20a%20Church%20of%20Christ,%20a%20Methodist%20church,%20a%20Presbyterian%20church,%20a%20nondenominational%20megachurch,%20a%20nondenominational%20regular%20church.%20I%20took%20notes.%20We%20had%20great%20discussions.%20They%20certainly%20weren%E2%80%99t%20all%20for%20me,%20but%20every%20church%20added%20something%20to%20my%20understanding%20of%20my%20own%20faith.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20one%20particularly%20important%20experience%20at%20the%20Church%20of%20Christ,%20even%20though%20the%20COC%20faith%20differs%20from%20my%20own%20in%20significant%20ways.%20The%20sermon%20during%20our%20visit%20was%20on%20singing%20loudly.%20Not%20just%20singing%20aloud,%20but%20singing%20loud.%20I%20forget%20the%20verse%20the%20pastor%20used,%20but%20it%20was%20something%20like%20Psalm%2098.4:%20%E2%80%9CShout%20joyfully%20to%20the%20Lord,%20all%20the%20earth;%20Break%20forth%20and%20sing%20for%20joy%20and%20sing%20praises.%E2%80%9D%20And%20not%20only%20did%20this%20church%20preach%20the%20message;%20they%20lived%20it!%20Despite%20not%20using%20any%20electric%20amplification,%20it%20was%20an%20energetic,%20LOUD%20worship%20service.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20some%20sort%20of%20earth-shattering%20thing.%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20feel%20like%20I%20had%20made%20God%20mad%20or%20like%20I%20was%20going%20to%20hell%20or%20like%20it%20was%20particularly%20significant%20theological%20discovery%20or%20anything.%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20know.%20I%20just%20felt%20convicted,%20I%20guess.%20I%E2%80%99d%20already%20started%20singing%20aloud%20at%20this%20point,%20but%20maybe%20I%20should%20commit%20to%20it%20a%20little%20more.%20Maybe%20I%20should%20be%20loud.%20Every%20worship%20service%20thereafter%20found%20me%20throwing%20myself%20into%20the%20song.%20It%20was%20quite%20the%20departure%20from%20my%20lip-syncing%20childhood!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20thought%20of%20that%20sweet%20experience%20today%20because%20Mike%20and%20I%20were%20visiting%20Beaufort,%20NC,%20where%20I%20lived%20for%20a%20few%20months%20in%20college.%20For%20the%20past%20year%20in%20Raleigh,%20we%E2%80%99ve%20been%20going%20to%20a%20church%20that%20I%20see%20as%20kind%20of%20a%20%E2%80%9Cback%20away%20from%20the%20conventional%20churches%20and%20lick%20your%20wounds,%20analyze%20your%20assumptions,%20and%20evaluate%20your%20beliefs%E2%80%9D%20kind%20of%20church.%20It%E2%80%99s%20the%20right%20place%20for%20me%20right%20now,%20but%20we%20go%20to%20a%20service%20with%20no%20singing.%20So%20for%20a%20year,%20I%E2%80%99ve%20only%20worshipped%20in%20song%20on%20my%20own!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EToday,%20though,%20we%20visited%20the%20conventional%20church%20I%20used%20to%20attend%20in%20Beaufort.%20Singing%20%E2%80%9CBlessed%20Be%20Your%20Name%E2%80%9D%20brought%20back%20old%20memories%20of%20avoiding%20singing,%20of%20singing%20aloud,%20of%20singing%20loud!%20Of%20how%20special%20it%20is,%20even%20if%20you%20often%20tell%20Him%20with%20words,%20and%20even%20if%20your%20heart%20tells%20Him%20without%20words,%20to%20praise%20God%20in%20song%20for%20the%20journey%20He%E2%80%99s%20carried%20you%20on.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20made%20you%20a%20little%20icebox%20cake%20to%20celebrate%20fall%20and%20the%20new%20Pumpkin%20Spice%20Oreos!%20They%E2%80%99re%20so%20good%20by%20themselves,%20but%20when%20stacked%20between%20layers%20of%20pumpkin%20spice%20whipped%20cream,%20they%20soften%20into%20a%20velvety%20autumn-flavored%20cake.%20What%20I%20love%20about%20icebox%20cakes%20(apart%20from%20how%20easy%20they%20are)%20is%20that%20you%20can%20really%20make%20them%20any%20size.%20The%20recipe%20below%20makes%20a%20big%20cake,%20but%20how%20cute%20would%20little%20personal%20icebox%20cakes%20be?%20Just%20a%20stack%20of%204-5%20oreos%20with%20cream%20sandwiched%20between%20each?%20There%20are%20lots%20of%20fun%20possibilities.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EQuestions%20for%20my%20Christian%20readers:%20what%20has%20God%20been%20working%20on%20in%20your%20heart%20lately?%20And%20what%E2%80%99s%20your%20favorite%20song%20to%20sing%20to%20Him?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20year%20ago:%20Sausage%20and%20Thyme%20Stuffed%20Mushrooms%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETwo%20years%20ago:%20Dessert%20Sm%C3%B6rg%C3%A5sbord%20with%20Ghirardelli%20Intense%20Dark%2
