Ингредиенты

  • 1 cup butter (not margarine)
  • 1 t. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 T. light corn syrup (Karo)
  • 2 ½ cups AP flour
  • 1 t. salt
  • food coloring

Инструкции

  1. Cream together butter, vanilla and powdered sugar.
  2. Add corn syrup.
  3. Sift flour and salt and gradually blend into butter/sugar mixture.
  4. Add 2 to 3 T. milk if needed for a smooth, stiff dough.
  5. Divide dough into 3 to four parts.
  6. Leave one part uncolored and add 4 drops of food color to each of the other parts (for Christmas, use red and green).
  7. Blend color in each dough portion thoroughly with a wooden spoon or knead by hand.
  8. Mix the portions together carefully so each color is still distinct. DO NOT BEAT TOGETHER.
  9. Form 2 logs, approximately 2 inches in diameter and wrap in waxed paper. Place in refrigerator until stiff (may be left up to 2 days before baking).
  10. When completely chilled, cut with a sharp knife (wetting between each cut helps keep dough from sticking to the knife) into 1/8 inch slices.
  11. At this point you should preheat your oven to 375ºF (190ºC) – reduce temperature for a fan-assisted oven.
  12. Place on ungreased cookie sheets (using parchment is okay but you need to remove quickly to prevent sticking).
  13. Bake for 6 to 10 minutes – WATCHING CAREFULLY – do not let the cookies brown as they will lose the colors which make them so attractive.
