- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup real butter, softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- Buttermilk Butter Sauce:
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Fresh strawberries, sliced and slightly mashed, for serving, optional

...it%20was%20a%20difficult%20decision...continue%20with%20my%20purchase%20or%20click%20on%20the%20cake...and,%20of%20course,%20the%20cake%20won!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20cake%20had%20me%20rethinking%20my%20Dang%20Meter...five%20dangs%20has%20always%20meant%20the%20recipe%20was%20excellent%20in%20every%20way%20and%20definitely%20worth%20whatever%20coma%20would%20ensue...but%20this%20cake,%20this%20rich,%20dense,%20buttery%20confection%20is%20in%20a%20class%20by%20itself...it%20falls%20into%20my%20secret%20category%20-%20one%20I've%20never%20mentioned%20before%20because%20I%20didn't%20think%20I%20could%20stand%20the%20backlash%20I'm%20certain%20to%20receive...but%20now%20that%20I'm%20brave%20(it's%20the%20new%20me)%20I'm%20going%20to%20tell%20you...I%20call%20it%20my%20Too%20Good%20to%20Share%20category.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20are%20only%20a%20few%20recipes%20in%20my%20Too%20Good%20To%20Share%20category%20and%20while%20this%20is%20one%20of%20them,%20I%20felt%20it%20was%20my%20culinary%20duty%20to%20pass%20this%20one%20along...because%20it's%20so%20perfect%20for%20summer,%204th%20of%20July%20parties,%20family%20reunions%20and%20a%20great%20way%20to%20end%20the%20summer%20on%20Labor%20Day.%20%20Just%20know%20this,%20after%20the%20family%20eats,%20after%20the%20company%20leaves%20(empty-handed%20even%20after%20they%20say,%20%22That%20cake%20was%20the%20best%20thing%20I've%20ever%20tasted,%20wow,%20you%20sure%20have%20a%20lot%20left!%22%20%20Their%20blatant%20attempts/hints%20to%20take%20some%20of%20the%20cake%20home%20with%20them%20hopefully%20will%20fall%20on%20deaf%20ears!%20%20You'll%20be%20sorry%20if%20they%20don't!),%20after%20the%20coma%20wears%20off...this%20cake%20will%20call,%20no%20scream,%20for%20just%20one%20more%20taste!%20%20It's%20too%20good%20to%20send%20home%20with%20company,%20it's%20too%20good%20to%20share%20with%20neighbors,%20it's%20too%20good%20to%20let%20the%20mister%20have%20the%20last%20piece!%20%20Coma%20be%20dammed!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22As%20God%20is%20my%20witness...If%20I%20have%20to%20lie,%20steal,%20cheat%20or%20kill...%22%20%20Scarlett%20was%20so%20dramatic,%20but%20I'm%20here%20to%20tell%20you,%20this%20cake%20would%20be%20worth%20any%20amount%20of%20lying,%20stealing%20or%20cheating...I%20may%20not%20go%20as%20far%20as%20to%20kill...depending%20on%20the%20person...because%20after%20the%20cake%20is%20baked%20and%20your%20kitchen%20is%20filled%20with%20the%20heady%20scents...you%20make%20the%20sauce...But-but-but-Buttermilk%20Butter%20Sauce...hallelelujah!...so%20thickity-sweet%20the%20Sweettooth%20Fairy%20herself%20would%20give%20it%205%20dangs!%20%20Holes%20are%20poked%20in%20the%20cake,%20while%20it's%20still%20warm%20in%20the%20pan...I%20started%20with%20a%20skewer%20but%20soon%20realized%20the%20holes%20were%20not%20nearly%20big%20enough%20so%20I%20switched%20to%20a%20chop%20stick%20-%20which%20worked%20great.%20%20Then%20the%20buttaaaah%20sauce%20is%20poured%20over%20the%20cake%20so%20it%20can%20ooze%20ever%20so%20slowly%20into%20each%20hole,%20caressing%20every%20little%20buttery-crumb...oh%20man,%20is%20it%20hot%20in%20here%20or%20is%20it%20just%20me?!?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EListen,%20this%20is%20down-home,%20old-fashioned%20goodness%20with%20a%20touch%20of%20e-vil...do%20not%20underestimate%20this%20cake...it's%20looks%20are%20deceiving...but%20when%20the%20scale%20jumps%20THREE%20pounds%20overnight%20you'll%20know%20what%20I'm%20talking%20about!%20%20(Another%20reason%20why%20I%20love%20this%20cake,%20it%20reminds%20me%20of%20home.%20%20My%20grandma%20sitting%20on%20her%20pink%20stool%20in%20her%20pink%20kitchen,%20my%20mom%20driving%20her%20little%20red%20Renault,%20my%20sisters%20fighting/crying/fighting,%20my%20bike%20that%20I%20rode%20to%20Ramona's%20house;%20everything%20about%20being%20a%20kid%20is%20wrapped%20up%20in%20this%20cake%20for%20me...I%20don't%20know%20why%20it's%20called%20a%20Kentucky%20Butter%20Cake,%20it%20should%20be%20called%20a%20Memory%20Cake!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%20Cake:%20%20Preheat%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees.%20%20Grease%20and%20flour%20a%20Bundt%20pan.%20In%20a%20large%20bowl,%20sift%20together%20flour,%20baking%20powder,%20baking%20soda,%20and%20salt,%20set%20aside.%20In%20the%20bowl%20of%20an%20electric%20mixer,%20cream%20together%20butter%20and%20sugar.%20%20In%20a%20small%20bowl%20combine%20eggs,%20buttermilk%20and%20vanilla.%20%20Alternately%20add%20flour%20mixture%20and%20milk%20mixture%20into%20the%20butter/sugar,%20beginning%20and%20ending%20with%20flour.%20%20Mix%20until%20just%20blended.%20%20Batter%20will%20be%20thick.%20%20Spoon%20into%20prepared%20Bundt%20pan%20and%20bake%20for%2060%20minutes,%20or%20until%20a%20toothpick%20inserted%20in%20the%20center%20of%20the%20cake%20comes%20out%20clean.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%20Buttermilk%20Butter%20Sauce:%20%20In%20a%20large%20sauce%20pan%20(contents%20will%20foam%20up)%20over%20medium-high%20heat,%20combine%20sugar,%20buttermilk,%20butter,%20water%20and%20baking%20soda.%20%20Bring%20to%20a%20boil%20and%20boil%20for%202%20minutes,%20stirring%20occasionally.%20%20%20Remove%20from%20heat%20and%20stir%20in%20vanilla.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20cake%20is%20still%20%20hot%20from%20the%20oven,%20(leave%20cake%20in%20pan)%20using%20a%20chop%20stick%20or%20skewer,%20poke%20small%20holes%20over%20the%20cake.%20%20Drizzle%20half%20of%20the%20butter%20sauce%20over%20cake%20and%20with%20the%20back%20of%20a%20spoon,%20push%20sauce%20into%20holes.%20%20Let%20cake%20sit%20for%2010%20minutes,%20then%20invert%20onto%20a%20cake%20plate.%20%20Drizzle%20half%20of%20the%20remaining%20sauce%20over%20top%20of%20cake,%20allowing%20to%20drip%20down%20sides%20and%20center.%20%20Pour%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20sauce%20over%20cake%20slices,%20if%20desired,%20when%20served.%20%20(You%20can%20also%20make%20more%20sauce%20so%20you'll%20have%20plenty%20to%20serve%20with.)%20%20Serve%20cake%20with%20smashed%20strawberries,%20if%20desired.%20%20Serves%2012.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
