%20and%20some%20peas.%20%20I%20do%20have%20some%20tortellini%20in%20there,%20but%20we%20ate%20that%20last%20night%20with%20half%20a%20bag%20of%20peas%20thrown%20into%20the%20water%20before%20draining%20it.%20%20There%20are%20some%20popsicles%20and%20a%20wee%20bit%20of%20Carmel%20Delight%20ice%20cream.%20%20A%20teeny%20weenie%20bit%20of%20chicken%20left%20over%20from%20Monday%20night.%20%20Not%20enough,%20really,%20to%20make%20the%20old%20pasta/chicken/%20roasted%20veggie%20standby%20the%20girls%20love.%20%20I%20also%20have%20some%20whole%20wheat%20flour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENo%20onions.%20%20No%20bacon.%20%20My%20few%20cloves%20of%20garlic%20have%20little%20green%20shoots%20coming%20out%20of%20them.%20%20I've%20got%20about%2010%20red%20new%20potatoes.%20%20No%20dried%20pasta%20even.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESigh.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet's%20talk%20about%20the%20carrot%20soup%20I%20made%20Tuesday%20night,%20shall%20we?%20%20That%20was%20the%20night%20I%20used%20my%20last%20onion.%20%20It%20was%20a%20lovely,%20sweet%20onion,%20no%20green%20shoots,%20no%20mold,%20still%20firm.%20%20How%20I%20miss%20that%20onion.%20%20Anyway,%20I%20had%20recently%20made%20some%20bread%20and%20decided%20that%20I'd%20make%20the%20soup%20and%20use%20up%20the%20last%20bit%20of%20cheddar%20I'd%20bought%20from%20the%20farmer's%20market%20ages%20ago%20by%20grilling%20some%20cheddar%20and%20mango%20chutney%20sandwiches.%20%20So%20I%20sauteed%20up%20the%20onion,%20added%20a%20couple%20of%20cloves%20of%20garlic,%20chopped%20about%2010%20carrots%20into%20fairly%20uniform%20slices%20and%20threw%20it%20all%20into%20a%20heavy%20bottomed%20pot%20with%20a%20swirl%20of%20olive%20oil%20and%20just%20a%20little%20bit%20of%20butter.%20%20After%20this%20cooked%20a%20bit%20I%20threw%20in%20some%20curry%20powder%20(thinking%20it%20would%20taste%20good%20with%20the%20chutney),%20and%20poured%20in%20the%20vegetable%20stock%20I'd%20made%20on%20Monday%20night.%20%20Then%20I%20got%20out%20the%20Panini%20Press%20Smith%20gave%20me%20for%20Mother's%20Day%20last%20year%20and%20started%20to%20make%20the%20sandwiches.%20%20Sliced%20the%20bread,%20sliced%20the%20cheddar,%20opened%20the%20cabinet%20for%20the%20chutney:%20no%20mango%20chutney.%20%20Check%20the%20other%20cabinet.%20%20Nope.%20%20How%20can%20there%20be%20no%20mango%20chutney?%20%20I%20distinctly%20remembered%20going%20to%20Whole%20Foods%20and%20tasting%20this%20awesome%20mango%20chutney%20on%20a%20cracker%20that%20was%20thrust%20upon%20me%20by%20a%20WF%20%22associate%22%20in%20the%20manner%20of%20a%20perfume%20sales%20person%20at%20a%20department%20store.%20%20I%20also%20distinctly%20remember%20greedily%20grabbing%20the%20last%20jar%20of%20the%20chutney%20and%20running%20to%20the%20check%20out%20counter%20with%20the%20rest%20of%20my%20purchases.%20%20Then%20I%20remembered%20that%20the%20moment%20my%20first%20item%20was%20scanned,%20the%20lights%20went%20out%20and%20the%20registers%20went%20down.%20%20There%20was%20a%20collective%20gasp%20from%20everyone%20in%20the%20store%20and%20a%20woman,%20with%20a%20voice%20like%20Lisa%20Simpson's,%20started%20walking%20around%20telling%20people%20to%20remain%20calm,%20which%20everyone%20was%20doing%20anyway.%20%20I%20waited%20a%20while%20for%20the%20generator%20to%20kick%20in,%20but%20I%20had%20to%20leave%20before%20it%20did%20because%20I%20had%20to%20pick%20Emma%20up%20from%20school%20and%20she%20hates%20it%20when%20I'm%20late.%20As%20I%20walked%20out,%20empty%20handed%20except%20for%20the%20sushi%20the%20manager%20gave%20to%20me%20for%20free%20(I%20do%20love%20the%20people%20at%20my%20Whole%20Foods%20despite%20their%20taste%20in%20music)%20three%20fire%20engines%20and%20one%20ambulance%20raced%20down%20Lancaster%20toward%20Wynnewood%20Ave.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECar%20accident?%20%20Explosion?%20%20Terrorist?%20%20I%20never%20learned%20because%20I%20took%20a%20right%20out%20of%20the%20Whole%20Foods%20parking%20lot%20to%20avoid%20the%20potential%20scene.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20no%20mango%20chutney.%20%20But%20the%20curry%20was%20really%20nice%20with%20the%20carrot%20soup%20in%20which%20we%20dipped%20the%20corners%20of%20our%20plain%20cheddar%20sandwiches%20happily.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20for%20tonight:%20I%20could%20roast%20the%20eggplant%20and%20make%20hummus%20with%20it,%20the%20garlic%20and%20the%20lone%20can%20of%20chickpeas%20I%20just%20found%20in%20the%20cabinet.%20%20Nigella%20Lawson%20whirs%20cream%20cheese%20up%20in%20her%20hummus%20--%20I%20can%20do%20that%20because%20I%20have%20that%20bit%20of%20cream%20cheese%20in%20the%20fridge%20(I%20just%20have%20to%20dig%20the%20toast%20crumbs%20out%20of%20it).%20%20I%20don't%20have%20any%20pita,%20but%20I%20do%20have%20time%20to%20bake%20a%20basic%20loaf%20of%20bread.%20%20Do%20I%20have%20olive%20oil?%20%20Yes.%20%20Things%20are%20looking%20up...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20a%20heavy%20bottomed%20stock%20pot%20over%20medium%20heat,%20add%20oil%20and%20butter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20the%20butter%20bubbles%20add%20the%20onion%20and%20stir%20until%20softened%3C/
