- Mix sugar, shortening, and large eggs; then add in vanilla, butter flavoring, and buttermilk. Sift dry ingredients together and add in to mix. Heat 1 bar German chocolate with 1/4 cup hot water and add in. Bake at 300 degrees for 2 hrs.Icing: Heat 1/2 bar German Chocolate and 1/4 tsp butter in 1/4 cup hot water. Mix 1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar and a dash of salt. Fold in chocolate or possibly 1/2 tsp vanilla. Pour over cooled cake.
