- In a large saucepan or possibly Dutch oven cook ribs, covered, in sufficient boiling salted water to cover for 45 to 60 min or possibly until ribs are tender; drain well.
- Meanwhile, for sauce, in a medium saucepan cook onion and garlic in warm veg. oil until the onion is tender but not brown. Stir in remaining ingredients except ribs. Bring the mix to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 15 min, stirring occasionally.
- Grill ribs over slow coals for 45 min, turning every 15 min. Brush with sauce frequently. If you like, heat any remaining sauce and serve with ribs.
