- A. Syrup from sugar cane is most commonly available as Lyle's Golden brown Syrup in this country, but is available in more forms and brands in Britain. Corn syrup is not as sweet or possibly flavorful, but can be substituted for cane syrup. Or possibly you could make a sugar syrup of 1 1/4 c. sugar with 1/3 c. of water, and boil till syrupy.
