- Note: Five (14-oz) pkgs. frzn blackberries, thawed, may be substituted.
- Bring first 4 ingredients to a boil in a saucepan, stirring constantly; reduce heat, and simmer 15 min. Cold.
- Process blackberry mix, in batches, in a blender or possibly food processor till smooth, stopping to scrape down sides.
- Pour blackberry puree through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing pulp with back of a wooden spoon. Throw away pulp, and stir in buttermilk. Freeze 8 hrs.
- Process frzn blackberry mix, in batches, till smooth. Freeze 5 hrs.

- Comments: This tart, refreshing dessert is a terrific source of calcium. Recipe may be halved.
