%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20the%20ingredients%20in%20my%20hamper%20was%20a%20container%20of%20'Cranberry,%20walnut%20&%20smoked%20bacon%20stuffing'.%20Therein%20came%20my%20first%20challenge!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHmm%20what%20to%20do%20with%20stuffing,%20other%20than%20well%20basically%20putting%20it%20up%20mr%20turkeys%20bottom?%20Whilst%20the%20%20stuffing%20was%20good,%20it%20was%20also%20very%20different%20to%20others%20I've%20had.%20In%20fact%20it%20was%20a%20more%20like%20a%20very%20coarsely%20minced%20meat%20mixture,%20compared%20to%20the%20rather%20smooth%20sausagemeat%20I%20normally%20buy%20from%20the%20butchers.%20It%20was%20also%20nothing%20like%20the%20paxo%20type.%20Before%20playing%20with%20it,%20I%20decided%20to%20quickly%20cook%20a%20weeny%20bit%20of%20it%20to%20test%20the%20flavouring.%20However%20I%20then%20also%20burnt%20my%20tongue%20in%20the%20process%20which%20once%20again%20taught%20me%20the%20hard%20way%20to%20have%20some%20patience%20and%20let%20things%20cool%20first!%20It%20needed%20a%20little%20more%20seasoning%20but%20provided%20a%20good%20base,%20with%20lots%20of%20texture.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20decided%20some%20kind%20of%20tart%20was%20in%20order%20and%20decided%20to%20play%20around%20with%20the%20pastry%20and%20came%20with%20this%20rather%20cute%20looking%20gb%20flag:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20I%20had%20best%20of%20british%20ingredients,%20so%20I%20thought%20a%20Union%20Jack%20flag%20was%20quite%20fitting!%20However%20I%20am%20so%20used%20to%20cooking%20previously%20for%20two,%20the%20results%20were%20rather%20large%20but%20it%20did%20result%20in%20me%20having%20a%20lunch%20that%20had%20admirers%20the%20next%20day%20at%20work!%20I%20am%20very%20lucky%20working%20with%20people%20from%20all%20over%20the%20world;%20we%20have%20some%20very%20interesting%20food%20chats%20and%20smells%20in%20our%20staffroom!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBest%20of%20British%20Sausage%20and%20Apple%20Tart%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMakes%20two%20large%20tarts%20-%20serves%204%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEasy%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPre-heat%20oven%20to%20180%20fan/%20200%20regular%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERoll%20out%20the%20puff%20pastry%20until%20its%20the%20thickness%20of%20a%20pound%20coin,%20cut%20into%20half%20lengthways.%20Then%20cut%20a%204cm%20strip%20off%20each%20rectangle.%20Cut%20this%20bit%20into%20four%20thin%20strips%20lenghthways%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScore%20a%20line%20about%201cm%20from%20the%20edge%20of%20each%20big%20rectangle,%20then%20fill%20this%20gap%20with%20the%20stuffing,%20to%20form%20a%20thin%20layer.%20Covered%20with%20the%20apple%20slices,%20and%20glaze%20with%20mustard%20mixture.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20take%20two%20of%20the%20reserved%20strips%20and%20carefully%20stretch%20them%20and%20place%20over%20the%20two%20longest%20areas%20of%20your%20flag,%20lightly%20egg%20glaze%20the%20overlapping%20parts%20to%20stick.%20Use%20the%20two%20shorter%20strips%20to%20complete%20the%20flag.%20Glaze%20all%20over%20with%20the%20beaten%20and,%20place%20on%20a%20lined%20baking%20tray.%20Repeat%20for%20the%20other%20block%20of%20pastry%20to%20give%20you%20two%20tarts,%20then%20bake%20for%2040%20minutes%20or%20until%20its%20cooked%20through.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20cooked%20through,%20cut%20into%20half%20and%20serve%20with%20seasonal%20vegetables%20-%20I%20went%20with%20my%20favourite%20Brussels%20sprouts:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhilst%20the%20recipe%20was%20very%20successful,%20I%20think%20next%20time%20will%20make%20four%20smaller%20flags%20as%20you%20lose%20some%20of%20the%20flag%20effect%20by%20cutting%20in%20half.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnjoy!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStuffing%20Meatballs:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhilst%20with%20the%20remaining%20stuffing,%20I%20made%20a%20tray%20of%20little%20meatballs.%20These%20would%20be%20ideal%20as%20a%20canap%C3%A9%20as%20part%20of%20a%20festive%20buffet,%20however%20I%20must%20point%20out%20that%20they%20also%20do%20very%20well%20as%20an%20emergency%20breakfast%20when%20you%E2%80%99ve%20slept%20through%20your%20alarm%20and%20grabbed%20the%20first%20thing%20that%20looks%20edible%20from%20the%20fridge!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20made%20them%20by%20mixing%20200g%20of%20the%20stuffing,%20with%20a%20couple%20of%20tbsp%20of%20apple%20sauce%20(shh%20from%20a%20jar!),%20rolled%20it%20into%20small%20walnut%20sized%20balls,%20rolled%20them%20in%20fairly%20coarse%20dried%20breadcrumbs%20and%20then%20baked%20them%20for%20around%2025%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20had%20both%20a%20good%20meaty%20flavour%20and%20texture,%20a%20dish%20I%20will%20definitely%20make%20again.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
