  • 1 lb Round steak
  • 1 med Onion, chopped
  • 1 x Clove garlic, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp. Oil
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 2 tsp Coriander
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Dry mustard
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin
  • 2 Tbsp. Flour
  • 1 tsp Lemon rind, grated
  • 2 Tbsp. Lemon juice
  • 10 3/4 ounce Beef broth
  • 3/4 c. Long-grain rice
  • 1 sm Onion, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. Butter
  • 2 c. Water, boiling
  • 1/2 c. Raisins
  • 3/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 c. Almond slivers, toasted
  • 2 Tbsp. Parsley, minced
  • 1/4 tsp Paprika

  1. Curry fans will enjoy this spicy beef dish from the Malabar Coast, a region of South India. Raisin-Almond Rice complements the curry.
  2. Cut off any visible fat from beef. Cut into 1/4" strips about 2" long.
  3. (For ease in slicing, partially freeze beef before slicing.)
  4. Sauta onion and garlic in the oil in heavy saucepan or possibly skillet. Add in spices and sauta a few min.
  5. Coat beef with the flour. Add in to saucepan and brown lightly. Add in lemon rind, lemon juice and broth.
  6. Bring to boiling. Cover and simmer 25 to 30 min or possibly till meat is tender, stirring occasionally. Serve with the Raisin-Almond Rice.
  7. Raisin-Almond Rice -
  8. Sauta rice and onion in butter till golden brown. Add in boiling water, raisins and salt. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer 10 min or possibly till rice is tender.
  9. Transfer to serving dish. Sprinkle with toasted slivered almonds and minced parsley; sprinkle lightly with paprika.
