- In small saucepan combine sugar, flour and salt. Gradually add in lowfat milk; mix well. Cook over medium heat till mix boils, stirring constantly; boil 1 minute. Blend small amount (1/4 c.) warm mix into egg. Return egg mix to saucepan; mix well. Cook till mix starts to bubble, stirring constantly. Stir in butter and vanilla. Cover and cook. Fills 1 layer or possibly 1 jelly roll.
- Tips:
- Chocolate Cream Filling: Increase sugar to 3/4 c. and add in 1 square (1 oz) unsweetened chocolate or possibly 1 envelope premelted unsweetened baking chocolate flavor with the sugar.
- Coconut Cream Filling: Stir in 1/3 c. flaked coconut with vanilla.
- Butterscotch Cream Filling: Substitute 2/3 c. firmly packed brown sugar for granulated sugar.
