As this year comes to an end, I’m reflecting on all the wonderful tasty treats I was privileged to enjoy.
1. I took a trip to Austin, TX for work and I was able to have my absolute favorite fajitas on the planet from Pappasitos. These fajitas are served medium rare (if you like them that way and I do) and are flame broiled. They make their own tortillas. They make guacamole table side. They serve delicious margaritas. Last but not least they have thin crisp chips and a light consistancy salsa. I love it all.
I don’t want to forget the chips!
2. I was able to cross off a foodie bucket list item (several times over) - “Have dinner with my husband in Italy.” First up, spaghetti alle vongole in Rome!

%20and%20are%20flame%20broiled.%20They%20make%20their%20own%20tortillas.%20They%20make%20guacamole%20table%20side.%20They%20serve%20delicious%20margaritas.%20Last%20but%20not%20least%20they%20have%20thin%20crisp%20chips%20and%20a%20light%20consistancy%20salsa.%20I%20love%20it%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20don%E2%80%99t%20want%20to%20forget%20the%20chips!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20I%20was%20able%20to%20cross%20off%20a%20foodie%20bucket%20list%20item%20(several%20times%20over)%20-%20%E2%80%9CHave%20dinner%20with%20my%20husband%20in%20Italy.%E2%80%9D%20First%20up,%20spaghetti%20alle%20vongole%20in%20Rome!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20for%20the%20main%20course%20a%20white%20fish%20in%20butter%20sauce%20that%20was%20so%20divine%20I%20forgot%20to%20take%20a%20picture%20until%20I%20was%20half%20way%20done%20eating%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20next%20day%20I%20had%20the%20best%20Margarita%20pizza%20in%20my%20life.%20The%20tomato%20sauce%20was%20so%20fresh.%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20think%20there%20was%20anything%20in%20the%20sauce%20except%20the%20tomato.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20Rome%20we%20were%20back%20in%20Milan%20where%20we%20went%20to%20our%20first%20%E2%80%9CPotluck%E2%80%9D%20in%20Italy.%20Everything%20was%20so%20good.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20host%20family%20treated%20us%20to%20many%20great%20meals.%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20take%20many%20pictures%20of%20my%20plate%20at%20their%20table.%20Probably%20because%20my%20phone%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20on%20me%20and%20I%20was%20too%20excited%20to%20eat.%20There%20was%20one%20exception%20-%20Pasta%20ai%20Quattro%20Fromaggi%20-%20I%20wanted%20to%20remember%20this%20one!%20The%20four%20cheeses%20I%20was%20told%20to%20use%20are%20Robiola%20or%20Stracchino%20(8%20oz),%20Tellegio%20(8%20oz),%20Parmigiana%20reggiano,%20Gorgonzola%204%20oz.%20Luckily%20I%20have%20a%20specialty%20cheese%20shop%2030%20minutes%20from%20me%20and%20they%20sell%20Robiola%20and%20Tellegio.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnother%20local%20family%20invited%20us%20to%20dinner%20along%20with%20our%20host%20family.%20She%20made%20us%20her%20family%20recipe%20for%20Arancini.%20They%20also%20treated%20us%20to%20homemade%20limonchello.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20Italy%20adventure%20continued%20in%20Florence.%20I%E2%80%99ve%20never%20seen%20so%20many%20quaint%20cafes%20and%20trattorias%20in%20such%20close%20proximity.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWould%20you%20look%20at%20these%20flowers?%20I%20hope%20I%20can%20recreate%20something%20similar%20on%20my%20front%20porch%20or%20in%20my%20backyard.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20just%20loved%20the%20decor%20of%20this%20place.%20I%20loved%20the%20pillows%20on%20the%20benches%20so%20much%20that%20I%20am%20quite%20determined%20to%20mimick%20something%20similar%20in%20my%20home.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20leave%20Florence%20without%20having%20a%20traditional%20steak%20Florentine!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20ordered%20the%20traditional%20sides%20to%20go%20with%20the%20steak.%20Note%20the%20fried%20squash%20blossoms%20at%20the%20top%20of%20my%20plate.%20I%E2%80%99ve%20always%20wanted%20to%20try%20those!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20is%20an%20amazing%20food%20market%20in%20Florence.%20The%20main%20level%20has%20vendors%20that%20sell%20fresh%20fish,%20meat,%20pasta,%20bread,%20and%20more.%20Upstairs%20there%20are%20vendors%20that%20sell%20everything%20imaginable%20for%20breakfast%20and%20lunch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20breakfast%20at%20the%20market%20was%20a%20cream%20filled%20croissant%20and%20a%20latte.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20leave%20the%20market%20without%20taking%20a%20fresh%20cannoli%20to%20go!%20The%20vendor%20made%20it%20right%20infront%20of%20my%20eyes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20ate%20one%20final%20pizza%20before%20leaving%20Italy.%20This%20is%20how%20it%20was%20served%20in%20Milan.%20It%20was%20delicious,%20but%20given%20a%20choice%20to%20have%20one%20of%20them%20again,%20I%E2%80%99d%20pick%20the%20one%20from%20Rome.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Somewhat%20food%20related%20I%20had%20a%20bookshelf/hutch%20custom%20made%20for%20our%20kitchen%20area.%20My%20husband%20has%20lots%20of%20books%20but%20this%20one%20is%20all%20mine,%20mine,%20mine,%20loaded%20with%20cookbooks%20and%20china.%20I%20ordered%20this%20from%20Painted%20Cottage%20in%20New%20Jersey,%20and%20they%20custom%20made%20it%20to%20my%20requested%20measurements.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20I%20discovered%20a%20new%20Middle%20Eastern%20restaurant%20in%20the%20San%20Diego%20area,%20Calibanzo%20Hummus%20&%20Grill.%20It%20was%20fabulous.%20My%20friend%20and%20I%20ordered%20the%20fried%20cauliflower,%20falafel,%20and%20a%20kebab%20to%20split.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20I%20finally%20grew%20a%20successful%20garden%20in%20pots!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20grew%20round%20zucchini%20so%20that%20I%20could%20replicate%20a%20meal%20that%20I%20had%20in%20Italy.%20It%20is%20a%20round%20zucchini%20stuffed%20with%20ground%20beef,%20onion,%20a%20pinch%20of%20nutmeg%20and%20cheese.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6.%20I%20learned%20about%20a%20sweet%20home-decor%20store%20in%20Layfeyette,%20CO%20called%20Due%20South.%20I%20found%20this%20cute%20milk%20jug%20and%20sign%20which%20works%20perfect%20over%20my%20stove.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E7.%20I%20attended%20a%20%E2%80%9CTheology%20and%20Beer%E2%80%9D%20event%20in%20downtown%20San%20Francisco%20in%20honor%20of%20the%20500th%20anniversary%20of%20the%20Protestant%20Reformation.%20The%20organizers%20paired%20adult%20beverages%20with%20their%20favorite%20Reformers.%20I%20tasted%20the%20most%20amazing%20cider%20ever.%20I%E2%80%99m%20hoping%20that%20I%20can%20get%20some%20shipped%20to%20me%20in%20Colorado.%20It%20would%20be%20worth%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E8.%20%20The%20Ajax%20sandwich,%20chargrilled%20chicken%20breast%20with%20provolone,%20applewood%20bacon,%20and%20pesto%20mayo%20served%20with%20a%20combo%20of%20onion%20rings%20and%20fries,%20from%20the%20Black%20Diamond%20Restaurant%20in%20Layfeyette,%20CO.%20Enough%20said.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E9.%20I%20helped%20cook%20Christmas%20dinner%20for%2065%20people%20at%20our%20church.%20The%20menu%20was%20pork%20loin%20roast,%20mashed%20potatoes,%20gravy,%20green%20beans,%20salad,%20and%20rolls.%20Everyone%20brought%20a%20dessert%20to%20share.%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20hear%20any%20complaints!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E10.%20%20I%20helped%20the%20Girl%E2%80%99s%20Club%20at%20our%20church%20create%20some%20%E2%80%9CGifts%20in%20a%20Jar%E2%80%9D%20that%20we%20made%20available%20for%20a%20donation.%20The%20money%20we%20brought%20in%20we%20used%20to%20buy%20gifts%20for%20Angel%20Tree%20-%20an%20organization%20that%20helps%20get%20Christmas%20gifts%20to%20children%20who%20have%20a%20parent%20that%20is%20incarcerated.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20a%20blessed%20year!%20I%20wonder%20what%202018%20will%20bring.%20Merry%20Christmas%20and%20Happy%20New%20Year!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
