What is Tradition American Home cooking all about?

When I created this group I was mostly thinking about exercising the new feature and seeing how it worked. Traditional American Home was the first thing that came to mind. Of course, I thought about what my Mom cooked when I grew up, the food that is traditional to me. I'd really like to change the group description now because I think it skews the group's possibilities.

Traditional American Home shouldn't be about white-bread regular (which happens to be my upbringing). What it might be is a place where us cooks can share the recipes and knowledge that our families taught us, the dishes that speak to our comfort places, and where we can all melt regardless of where our ancestors came from.

What is traditional in your home, where did it come from, and how have you used it to build upon your American experience?

For me going back in family history is where is begins. An Italian woman (Great-grandma) marries and Irishmen (Great-grandpa) can you imagine the first Irish dinner; Cornbeef with tomato sauce. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall. I think the saying for the women in the family began with Great-Grandma, "If it don't taste like your mothers, then go home to your mother!" as we are picking up his dinner plate and scraping it into the trash. HAHA. I feel traditional American home cooking is just that a blending of our backgrounds (fusion) which makes it our own and each generation adds something or takes something out to make the dish uniquely ours. In my home a good pot of Irish Stew is served with homemade Garlic Bread and it is delicious don't you know!
