Eating to Live vs Living to Eat

If we can convince most of the American population to "Eat to Live" versus the "Live to Eat" mentality, most of the health issues that many Americans experience would go away simply because they corrected their poor eating habits which is generally the reason for their poor health issues. Health insurance premiums would then go down and we would all benefit from optimal health benefits.

I cannot agree more! And eating "living food" is what is so important to make that happen. We eat so much junk that cannot even be called food. Instead of popping a pill for every ailment, if people would learn to eat right we would all be so much healthier!

I am finally learning to eat to live even tho I am now 71 yrs old, diabetic, heart problems and kidney problems, along with gout. I am hoping to get some good ideas from this site. I have lost 84 lbs since last april and still have a good bit to go so I like any encourgement and healthy recipes that taste good also. I have always loved to cook so I am just trying to change to cooking but keeping it still delicious instead of loaded with sugar and fat. Anna

Since I had my diabetic relapse and started to eat to live right. I have lost weight and my sugar is getting controlled. I also have seen less of my doctors, less copays, and less pills.

A lot of people take refuge in junk food when dealing with stress, depression, etc. This only adds to the trouble in the long run! My grandmother, at 91, with no diabetes, obesity, blood pressure-related or any serious health issues has been a major inspiration to me. One of her primary techniques was to have frequent, small helpings of the kind of food that agrees with her digestive system.

I agree with all that has been said. My problem? How to cook to appeal to my overweight, newly diagnosed diabetic, husband, who has no idea of what a carb is, let alone how to count them! I am looking for recipes that are low carb, good tasting, and filling. I want to help him lose weight and get away from all the "candy" machines at work. He has a major sugar tooth right now which I am encouraging him to appease by eating small portions of fruit, yogurt, and an occasional serving of low-sugar ice cream. I guess simple is better right now. I'm trying to stick to simple meat, vegetable, salad meals with fruit as dessert.
