Обо мне
I grew up in the Midwest (USA) eating good solid, plain food (lots of meat and potatoes, as my grandfather was a potato farmer). As a young bride in southern California, I developed a love for Mexican food, and it is still a favorite. Through the years as our children grew, we became more adventurous in our tastes, but it is only in the last several years that I have been intentional about learning to cook more globally. We host international students who are here to study English, and I have learned many things from them. It is so fun to go with them to the international markets and have them explain what the different sauces, spices, etc. are, and how they are used! My pantry, refrigerator, and freezer are filled with exotic ingredients from around the world.
I host a big meal for friends and family every week (it is an open invitation, and they may bring friends, so on any given week there are usually a dozen or so languages spoken!). Each week is a different "theme" meal: sometimes it's simply "Greek night", or "fiesta night", sometimes a little more fun, like "green soup night" (I served 3 different green soups). They are all warned that everything is an "experiment" but so far they are all willing to be "guinea pigs" :)
I try to have several options, including vegetarian, on these nights, meaning that I usually set up as a buffet, where guests can pick and choose according to their preferences.
Any suggestions for menu ideas, themes, recipes would be great!
