%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBacon-Wrapped%20Dates%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20this%20coming%20weekend%20marks%20another%20Super%20Bowl%20(can%20I%20call%20it%20that%20even%20though%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20affiliated%20with%20the%20NFL?)%20and%20another%20occasion%20when%20you%20might%20be%20called%20upon%20to%20make%20appetizers%20and%20%E2%80%9Cgame%20day%20snacks%E2%80%9D%20for%20your%20guests%20to%20mindlessly%20nosh%20as%20they%20watch%20said%20big%20game.%20It%20basically%20means%20that%20if%20you%20go%20anywhere%20near%20food%20media%20between%20now%20and%20Sunday,%20you%E2%80%99ll%20be%20inundated%20with%20recipes%20for%20chili%20and%20various%20x-layer%20dips%20and%20everything%20gluttonous%20and%20frankly,%20done%20to%20death.%20So%20I%E2%80%99d%20like%20to%20present%20you%20with%20two%20options%20that%20aren%E2%80%99t%20revolutionary%20in%20their%20construct,%20but%20are%20delicious%20and%20really%20easy%20to%20prepare%20and%20perfectly%20suited%20to%20slipping%20in%20with%20the%20usual%20suspects%20if%20you%20have%20guests%20with%20more%20discerning%20palates%20or%20you%20just%20want%20something%20slightly%20more%20sophisticated%20for%20yourself%20while%20watching%20the%20game.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETapa%20of%20Anchovy,%20Red%20Peppers%20and%20Goat%20Cream%20Cheese%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20why%20tapas%20rule%20when%20it%20comes%20to%20easy%20dishes%20to%20prepare%E2%80%93so%20many%20of%20them%20were%20borne%20from%20the%20necessity%20of%20making%20easy%20snacks%20quickly%20(at%20least%20what%20I%E2%80%99ve%20seen)%20and%20so%20they%20aren%E2%80%99t%20fussy%20or%20overly%20difficult%20to%20make.%20Naturally%20some%20are%20much%20more%20complicated,%20but%20we%20won%E2%80%99t%20get%20into%20that%20today;%20instead,%20let%E2%80%99s%20focus%20on%20the%20simple%20and%20the%20easy%20to%20whip%20up:%20namely%20dates%20wrapped%20in%20bacon%20and%20anchovies%20over%20bread%20smothered%20with%20goat%20cheese.%20Imagine%20these%20as%20they%20likely%20once%20were%E2%80%93a%20cheap%20way%20for%20a%20chef%20to%20use%20up%20ingredients%20to%20serve%20to%20bar%20customers%20in%20order%20to%20entice%20them%20to%20eat%20more%20food.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20key%20to%20both%20of%20these%20is%20the%20ingredients:%20for%20the%20bacon-wrapped%20dates,%20get%20the%20best%20bacon%20you%20can%20afford.%20For%20the%20goat%20cheese%20and%20anchovy%20tapas,%20get%20high-quality%20spreadable%20goat%20cheese%20and%20the%20best%20anchovies%20you%20can%20afford%E2%80%93ours%20came%20from%20Russ%20and%20Daughters%20and%20were%20about%20$15%20a%20jar,%20but%20totally%20worth%20it%20because%20they%20are%20subtle,%20salty%20and%20delicious%20all%20in%20one%20bite.%20You%E2%80%99ll%20also%20need%20a%20pair%20of%20heat-resistant%20tongs%20for%20the%20browning%20of%20the%20bacon,%20and%20you%E2%80%99ll%20have%20to%20pit%20the%20dates%20before%20you%20use%20them%20(though%20that%20is%20relatively%20easy%20as%20they%20are%20large%20and%20easy%20to%20remove%20with%20a%20slit%20of%20the%20date).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20go%20ahead%20and%20class%20up%20that%20Super%20Bowl%20party!%20The%20bacon-wrapped%20dates%20will%20be%20a%20certain%20crowd%20pleaser%20thanks%20to%20the%20inclusion%20of%20bacon,%20and%20the%20anchovy%20option%20will%20appeal%20to%20those%20who%20are%20dreaming%20of%20Europe%20(and%20perhaps%20of%20La%20Liga%20or%20EPL%20action)%20and%20you%E2%80%99ll%20put%20a%20smile%20on%20everyone%E2%80%99s%20face.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBacon-Wrapped%20Dates%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eadapted%20from%20The%20Book%20of%20Tapas%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Emakes%208;%20scale%20up%20as%20necessary%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E8%20pitted%20dates%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E8%20slices%20of%20good%20bacon%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20tablespoons%20of%20oil%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWrap%20a%20bacon%20slice%20around%20each%20date%20and%20spear%20with%20a%20toothpick.%20Bring%20the%20oil%20to%20medium-high%20heat%20and%20add%20in%20the%20bacon-wrapped%20dates,%20turning%20with%20tongs%20as%20each%20side%20gets%20browned%20until%20they%20are%20all%20browned.%20Drain%20on%20a%20paper%20towel%20and%20season%20with%20a%20tiny%20bit%20of%20salt%20if%20desire%20(but%20it%20shouldn%E2%80%99t%20need%20it).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnchovies%20and%20Roasted%20Red%20Peppers%20over%20Goat%20Cheese%20and%20Bread%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eserves%204,%20scale%20up%20for%20larger%20parties%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/4%20baguette,%20sliced%20thin%20on%20the%20bias%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20goat%20cheese%20to%20each%20round%20of%20bread,%20and%20then%20layer%20on%20anchovies%20and%20then%20roasted%20red%20peppers%20(see%20note%20for%20roasting%20it%20yourself)%20and%20serve,%20sprinkling%20the%20bread%20with%20a%20touch%20of%20lemon%20juice.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*To%20roast%20red%20peppers:%20turn%20oven%20to%20Broil%20and%20to%20Broil%20temperature,%20and%20quarter%20a%20red%20bell%20pepper%20whilst%20removing%20the%20seeds%20and%20the%20stem%20and%20arrange%20on%20a%20baking%20sheet.%20Roast%20in%20the%20oven%20for%205%20to%207%20minutes%20(checking%20on%20time),%20remove%20when%20skin%20is%20charred%20and%20transfer%20into%20a%20
