%20his%20tweets%20because%20they%20usually%20make%20me%20smile.%20But%20as%20I%20said,%20I%20am%20not%20much%20of%20a%20dessert%20guy.%20So%20his%20blog,%20the%20books,%20none%20of%20that%20really%20appealed%20to%20me.%20Though%20I%20acknowledge%20him%20as%20a%20great%20cook.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20I%20was%20rummaging%20through%20a%20pile%20of%20books%20at%20a%20garage%20sale%20recently%20and%20I%20came%20across%20one%20his%20books,%20The%20Perfect%20Scoop.%20It%20was%20splotched%20with%20chocolate%20and%20a%20couple%20of%20pages%20were%20stuck%20together.%20So%20I%20got%20the%20idea%20that%20this%20book%20had%20been%20through%20its%20paces.%20Suddenly%20I%20thought%20about%20the%20book%20I%20am%20writing%20and%20I%20thought%20I'd%20be%20honored%20to%20see%20it%20so%20well-used%20and%20obviously%20well-loved.%20That's%20when%20I%20knew%20David's%20book%20did%20not%20deserve%20to%20be%20in%20the%203%20books%20for%20$5.00%20pile.%20I%20decided%20to%20rescue%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20the%20more%20I%20rummaged,%20the%20more%20I%20realized%20that%20the%20book%20in%20my%20hand%20was%20the%20only%20book%20published%20after%201983,%20and%20one%20of%20the%20few%20cookbooks.%20Now%20I%20love%20retro,%20but%20these%20books%20weren't%20retro%20they%20were%20just%20out-dated.%20So%20I%20took%20The%20Perfect%20Scoop%20all%20by%20itself%20up%20to%20the%20woman%20in%20charge.%20Now%20I%20know%20I%20should%20have%20offered%20the%20woman%20$1.00%20for%20just%20the%20one%20book.%20I%20mean%203%20for%20$5.00%20works%20out%20to%20$1.66%20a%20book.%20So%20$1.00%20seemed%20like%20the%20logical%20number.%20But%20instead%20I%20said%20%22I'll%20give%20you%20fifty%20cents%22.%20As%20soon%20as%20I%20said%20it%20I%20regretted%20it.%20It%20seemed%20rude.%20But%20I%20was%20stuck%20on%20the%20$1.00%20number%20and%20thought%20if%20I%20said%20fifty%20cents,%20she'd%20counter%20with%20a%20dollar.%20But%20she%20said%20%22sure%22.%20Which%20was%20crazy%20good%20luck%20for%20me.%20But%20still%20I%20felt%20silly%20standing%20there%20as%20she%20tried%20to%20find%20$19.50%20as%20change%20to%20the%20twenty%20I%20gave%20her.%20Yikes,%20I%20have%20to%20live%20in%20this%20neighborhood.%20What's%20wrong%20with%20me?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyway%20my%20good%20fortune%20continued%20because%20a%20few%20days%20later%20I%20made%20David%20Lebovitz'%20Chocolate%20Sorbet%20exactly%20as%20written%20from%20that%20book.%20Holy%20you%20know%20what!%20This%20sorbet%20was%20a%20revelation%20to%20me.%20I%20liked%20this%20dessert,%20and%20it%20was%20chocolate.%20It%20tasted%20like%20really%20good%20dirt.%20I%20mean%20that%20in%20a%20really%20good%20way.%20Because%20I%20am%20talking%20about%20the%20very%20best%20dirt,%20it%20was%20so%20dark%20and%20so%20complex.%20I%20swear%20this%20sorbet%20was%20even%20creamy.%20But%20how%20was%20that%20possible?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20saucepan,%20whisk%20together%201%201/2%20cups%20(375%20ml)%20of%20the%20water%20with%20the%20sugar,%20cocoa%20powder,%20and%20salt.%20Bring%20to%20a%20boil,%20whisking%20frequently.%20Let%20it%20boil,%20continuing%20to%20whisk,%20for%2045%20seconds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20from%20the%20heat%20and%20stir%20in%20the%20chocolate%20until%20it's%20melted,%20then%20stir%20in%20the%20vanilla%20extract%20and%20the%20remaining%203/4%20cup%20(180%20ml)%20water.%20Transfer%20the%20mixture%20to%20a%20blender%20and%20blend%20for%2015%20seconds.%20Chill%20the%20mixture%20thoroughly,%20then%20freeze%20it%20in%20your%20ice%20cream%20maker%20according%20to%20the%20manufacturer's%20instructions.%20If%20the%20mixture%20has%20become%20too%20thick%20to%20pour%20into%20your%20machine,%20whisk%20it%20vigorously%20to%20thin%20it%20out.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
