%20Benjamin%20Franklin,%20I%E2%80%99m%20certain%20that%20while%20wine%20may%20be%20proof%20that%20a%20higher%20spiritual%20being%20loves%20us%20and%20wants%20us%20to%20be%20happy,%20I%20am%20also%20convinced%20that%20citrus%20fruits%20are%20at%20their%20peak%20in%20the%20wintertime%20to%20give%20us%20some%20assurance%20that%20winter%20has%20its%20place%20and%20we%20shouldn%E2%80%99t%20hate%20absolutely%20everything%20from%20January%20through%20most%20of%20March.%20While%20I%E2%80%99m%20content%20to%20use%20them%20in%20salads%20and%20eat%20them%20as-is%20on%20a%20regular%20basis,%20using%20them%20in%20cocktails%20this%20year%20has%20yielded%20some%20pretty%20delicious%20results%20that%20have%20entered%20into%20my%20weekend%20cocktail%20rotation.%20In%20an%20effort%20to%20post%20more%20frequently%20than%20twice%20a%20month,%20I%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20share%20a%20few%20different%20ones%20over%20the%20next%20few%20days.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20few%20weeks%20ago%20I%20acquired%20a%20nice%20stack%20of%20Canal%20House%20Cooking%E2%80%99s%20seasonal%20cookbooks%20on%20sale%20at%20Williams%20Sonoma,%20and%20a%20series%20of%20recipes%20that%20caught%20my%20eye%20in%20volume%20six%20was%20for%20the%20Greyhound%E2%80%94a%20simple%20combination%20of%20gin%20and%20grapefruit%20juice%E2%80%94and%20all%20of%20its%20variations.%20%20March%20is%20perhaps%20the%20ideal%20time%20to%20be%20experimenting%20with%20these%20libations%20because%20while%20signs%20are%20pointing%20to%20spring,%20we%20could%20just%20as%20easily%20be%20walloped%20with%20a%20blizzard%20at%20any%20moment.%20We%20might%20as%20well%20be%20sipping%20a%20seasonally%20appropriate%20cocktail%20while%20we%20await%20to%20see%20if%20the%20weather%20is%20more%20akin%20to%20lions%20or%20lambs,%20right?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20reason%20why%20you%20see%20this%20image%20everywhere%20is%20because%20it%E2%80%99s%20accurate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(Mmmm.%20Lamb.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EItalian%20Greyhound%20with%20Vol%206%20of%20Canal%20House%20Cooking%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20all%20of%20the%20variations%20on%20the%20liquor-plus-grapefruit%20juice%20model,%20my%20favorite%20is%20easily%20the%20Italian%20Greyhound,%20because%20the%20Campari%20adds%20just%20the%20right%20amount%20of%20bitterness%20to%20the%20glass%20to%20keep%20everything%20balanced%20and%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20need%20much%20to%20get%20the%20desired%20effect.%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20sure%20if%20it%E2%80%99s%20just%20the%20grapefruit%20I%20use,%20but%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20find%20the%20juice%20to%20be%20at%20all%20too%20tart%20here,%20but%20that%20also%20could%20be%20that%20Campari%20at%20work.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EItalian%20Greyhound%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eslightly%20adapted%20from%20Canal%20House%20Cooking,%20Vol%206%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eserves%201%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20an%20old-fashioned%20or%20other%20short%20tumbler,%20fill%20with%20ice%20and%20add%20gin,%20said%20splash%20of%20Campari,%20and%20grapefruit%20juice;%20gently%20stir%20and%20serve%20immediately.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
