What I Ate Labor Day Weekend

September 4, 2013 By: Kathy Steger8 Comments

Hi guys! Hope you had a fantastic and hopefully a long Labor Day weekend? I surely did. This was a truly great summer for us and I enjoyed every moment of it. Now I’m looking forward to crisp weather, pumpkins and oversize sweaters. I figured instead of talking about my regular eats today, I’m going to share what I ate and drank over Labor Day. After all it involved a dessert, a few mimosas and a heirloom tomato pie. Saturday I stopped at one of my favorite bakeries and picked up a Pineapple Tres Leches cake. Although my cravings were satisfied with a very tiny piece the rest didn’t go to waste because I live with a cake loving 5 year old. I wonder what kid isn’t cake loving. That night when Kurt got home from work I asked him to make me martini. It’s been a while since I’ve had one but luckily my Hubby is an ex bartender. I don’t remember what I had for dinner, the martini might have been a little strong. We hosted another party on Sunday. I found a recipe for a Heirloom Tomato Pie in the latest edition of Fine Cooking magazine. It looked very appetizing so I had to try it. I switched up some of the ingredients and topped it with Herb Fontina cheese. Smashing success, gone within minutes. I will definitely do a post on it soon. At what is a party without a cocktail? A mimosa to be exact. Sadly Kurt had to work Monday so Briana and I had a girls day. Somehow she dragged me into Smashburger and I had an order of sweet potato fries. Oh boy were they good. I’m not sure where my latest obsession with sweet potato came from but I’m surely enjoying it. To offset my sweet potato fry indulgence I made a light dinner of Steamed Clams with Chorizo in White Wine Broth. Happy Wednesday all Thank you Jenn at Peas and Crayons for hosting.
